John M. Wright
Lieutenant general John Macnair Wright (14 April 1916 – 27 January 2014) was a United States Army officer who served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Military career On graduating from the United States Military Academy (West Point) in 1940 Lieutenant Wright was assigned to the 91st Coast Artillery on Corregidor, Philippines. During World war II he was captured during the Battle of Corregidor and spent 3.5 years as a Japanese prisoner of war. He survived the sinking of the Ōryoku Maru and was freed from captivity in September 1945. He later wrote about his experiences in his book ''Captured on Corregidor: Diary of an American P.O.W. in World War II''. During the Korean War Lieutenant Colonel Wright served in the 7th Infantry Division. He was promoted to Brigadier general and served as Assistant Division Commander of the 11th Air Assault Division (Test), which was renamed the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) and deployed to South Vietnam. The United States Military Academy (USMA), also known metonymically as West Point or simply as Army, is a United States service academy in West Point, New York. It was originally established as a fort, since it sits on strategic high ground overlooking the Hudson River with a scenic view, north of New York City. Battle Of Hamburger Hill
The Battle of Hamburger Hill (13–20 May 1969) was a battle of the Vietnam War that was fought by US Army and Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) forces against People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) forces during Operation Apache Snow. Though the heavily-fortified Hill 937, a ridge of the mountain Dong Ap Bia in central Vietnam near its western border with Laos, had little strategic value, US command ordered its capture by a frontal assault, only to abandon it soon thereafter. The action caused a controversy among both the US armed services and the public back home. The battle was primarily an infantry engagement, with the US Airborne troops moving up the steeply sloped hill against well-entrenched troops. Attacks were repeatedly repelled by the PAVN defenses. South Vietnam

Ōryoku Maru
was a Japanese passenger cargo ship which was commissioned by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II as a troop transport and prisoner of war (POW) transport ship. Japanese POW transport ships are often referred to as hell ships, due to their notoriously unpleasant conditions and the many deaths that occurred on board. In December 1944, the ship was bombed by American aircraft, killing 200 Allied POWs. Hundreds more died in the months that followed. Sinking ''Oryoku Maru'' left Manila on December 13, 1944, with 1,620 prisoners of war (including 1,556 American, 50 British and Dutch, 7 Czech, 4 Norwegians and several other nationalities) packed in the holds, and 1,900 Japanese civilians and military personnel in the cabins. The Battle of Corregidor (; ), fought on May 5–6, 1942, was the culmination of the Japanese campaign for the conquest of the Commonwealth of the Philippines during World War II. The fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942, ended all organized opposition by the U.S. Army Forces Far East to the invading Japanese forces on Luzon, in the northern Philippines. The island bastion of Corregidor, with its network of tunnels and formidable array of defensive armaments, along with the fortifications across the entrance to Manila Bay, was the remaining obstacle to the 14th Japanese Imperial Army of Lieutenant General Masaharu Homma.
