John Lyon, 7th Lord Glamis
John Lyon, 7th Lord Glamis (1558) was a Scottish nobleman. Life He was born about 1521, the son of John Lyon, 6th Lord Glamis, by Janet Douglas, Lady Glamis, Janet Douglas, second daughter of George, master of Angus. His father died in 1528. Along with his mother, who had married as her second husband Archibald Campbell of Skipness Castle, Skipnish, Glamis and others were in July 1537 placed on trial on the charge of conspiring to cause the death of James V of Scotland by poison. His mother Janet was found guilty and burnt at the stake. Glamis, then only in his sixteenth year, confessed, and was placed in prison. Some time later he was released from prison, but on 3 December 1540 his estates were annexed to the crown by act of parliament. On 13 March 1543 the forfeiture was rescinded, and he was restored to his titles and estates. John Lyon, 6th Lord Glamis (died 1528) was a Scottish nobleman. He was the second son of John Lyon, 4th Lord Glamis, and succeeded his brother as Lord Glamis in 1505. Sir Thomas Lyon, Master of Glamis (died 1608) was a Scottish nobleman and official, Lord High Treasurer of Scotland. Master of Glamis Lyon was the younger son of John Lyon, 7th Lord Glamis, by his wife Janet Keith, daughter of Robert, Lord Keith, and sister of the fourth Marischal. He was one of the youths who attended King James in Stirling during his minority. His original style was Sir Thomas of Auldbar and Balduckie. On the death of his elder brother, John Lyon, 8th Lord Glamis, in 1578, he became tutor to his nephew, Patrick, ninth lord, and, being after Patrick the nearest presumptive heir to the title, was known as Master of Glamis. In Scotland, a baron or baroness is the head of a feudal barony, also known as a prescriptive barony. This used to be attached to a particular piece of land on which was situated the ''caput'' (Latin for "head") or essence of the barony, normally a building, such as a castle or manor house. John Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Hamilton (1540–1604) was the founder of the long line of the marquesses and dukes of Hamilton in Scotland. Birth and origins John was born about 1540 in Scotland. John Lyon, 8th Lord Glamis (died 1578) was a Scottish nobleman, judge and Lord High Chancellor of Scotland. Life He was the eldest son of John Lyon, 7th Lord Glamis, by his wife, Janet Keith, daughter of Robert Keith, Master of Marischal, and sister of William Keith, 4th Earl Marischal.
