John Lynn (VC)
John Lynn VC DCM (a.k.a. Jackie Lynn) (1887 – 3 May 1915) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. He was 27 years old, and a private in the 2nd Battalion, The Lancashire Fusiliers, British Army during the First World War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 2 May 1915 near Ypres, Belgium, when the Germans were advancing behind their wave of asphyxiating gas, Private Lynn, although almost overcome by the deadly fumes, handled his machine-gun with great effect against the enemy, and when he could not see them, he moved his gun higher up the parapet so that he could fire more effectively. This eventually checked any further advance and the outstanding courage displayed by this soldier had a great effect upon his comrades in the very trying circumstances. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. The dominant figure of Canadian Confederation, he had a political career that spanned almost half a century. Macdonald was born in Scotland; when he was a boy his family immigrated to Kingston in the Province of Upper Canada (today in eastern Ontario). As a lawyer, he was involved in several high-profile cases and quickly became prominent in Kingston, which elected him in 1844 to the legislature of the Province of Canada. Johnnie Ross Lynn (born December 19, 1956) is an American football coach and former player. He was a defensive back who played for the New York Jets for seven seasons from 1979 to 1986. He became a secondary coach after his playing career ended. John Galloway Lynn
John Galloway Lynn (October 1, 1803 – October 1, 1883) was an American businessman from Cumberland, Maryland, United States. Lynn built the Lynn Wharf, along the Potomac River at Cumberland. The wharf was used to transfer coal from the railroad to Barge, canal boats. His heirs sold this to the Maryland Mining Company. Lynn was an incorporator of the Lulworth Iron company in Maryland.
