John Lynch (February 18, 1825 – July 21, 1892) was a nineteenth-century politician, merchant, manufacturer and newspaper publisher from Maine. Born in Portland, Maine, Lynch attended public schools as a child and graduated from Portland High School, Portland, Maine, Portland High School in 1842. He engaged in Mercantilism, mercantile pursuits, was manager of the ''Portland Daily Press'' in 1862 and was a member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1862 to 1864. John Joseph Lynch (6 February 1816 – 12 May 1888) was an Irish prelate of the Catholic Church. A member of the Congregation of the Mission, he served as the third Bishop (1860-1870) and first List of Roman Catholic archbishops of Toronto, Archbishop of Toronto (1870-1888). He founded Our Lady of Angels Seminary (now Niagara University) in 1856. John Lynch was the president and CEO of the Broadcast Company of the Americas. Early life John Lynch grew up in suburban Chicago in an Irish-Catholic family. His grandparents were Irish immigrants. His grandparents named their son (Lynch's father) John Pershing Lynch, after the World War I general of the same name. Lynch graduated from Benet Academy in 1960, and went on to major in broadcasting at Drake University, where he also played football as linebacker and tight end. He was drafted right out of college to play linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1969. A knee injury in the first few weeks of the season immediately ended his football career after one season, however. John Terrence Lynch Jr. (born September 25, 1971) is an American football executive and former strong safety who is the current general manager of the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Stanford University, and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round of the 1993 NFL Draft. A nine-time Pro Bowl selection, Lynch earned a Super Bowl ring with the Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII. Lynch was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
