John Lyles Glenn Jr.
John Lyles Glenn Jr. (April 2, 1892 – May 2, 1938) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of South Carolina and the United States District Court for the Western District of South Carolina. Education and career Born in Chester, South Carolina, Glenn received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from Wofford College in 1912 and a Bachelor of Laws from Oxford University in 1918 before serving as a Captain in the United States Army from 1918 to 1919. He was in private practice in Chester from 1919 to 1929, serving also as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1919 to 1923 and as a solicitor and prosecuting attorney for the Sixth South Carolina Circuit from 1923 to 1929. Wofford College
Wofford College is a private liberal arts college in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was founded in 1854. The campus is a national arboretum and one of the few four-year institutions in the southeastern United States founded before the American Civil War that still operates on its original campus. Wofford was founded with a bequest of $100,000 from the Rev. Benjamin Wofford (1780–1850), a Methodist minister and Spartanburg native who sought to create a college for "literary, classical, and scientific education in my native district of Spartanburg." The college's Main Building is the oldest structure on campus and was designed by the noted Charleston architect Edward C. Jones. The University of South Carolina School of Law, also known as South Carolina Law School, is a professional school within the University of South Carolina. The school of law was founded in 1867, and remains the only public and non-profit law school in the state of South Carolina. The school has been accredited by the American Bar Association since 1925 and has been a member of the Association of American Law Schools since 1924. The entering class of first-year law students in 2019 was composed of 212 students from 22 states. Fifty-two percent of students were from South Carolina, and minority students made up twenty percent of the class.
