John Lamb (cricketer)
Henry John Hey Lamb (3 May 1912 – 5 February 1993) was an English cricketer. Lamb was a right-handed batsman who fielded occasionally as a wicket-keeper. He was born at Warkton, Northamptonshire. Career Lamb made his first-class debut for Northamptonshire against Warwickshire in the 1934 County Championship. He made 37 further first-class appearances, the last of which came against Somerset in the 1938 County Championship. In his 38 first-class appearances, he scored 1,085 runs at an average of 16.95, with a high score of 91 not out. This score, which was one of four first-class fifties he made, came against Essex in 1936. He also captained Northamptonshire on occasion but was not the official club captain. Death He died at Kettering, Northamptonshire, on 5 February 1993. Warkton
Warkton is a small nucleated village and civil parish in the English county of Northamptonshire. It is approximately three miles northeast of the town of Kettering and seven miles west-northwest of Thrapston, and forms part of North Northamptonshire. At the time of the 2001 census, the parish's population was 144 people, reducing slightly to 136 at the 2011 Census. The village's name means 'Farm/settlement which is connected to a man named Weorc(a)'. The Grade I listed parish church of St Edmund is particularly noted for containing four Baroque marble monuments erected between the 1750s and 1830s to members of the local Montagu family of Boughton House. The monuments are housed in four niches in the specially constructed chancel. The original medieval (probably Norman) chancel was demolished to make way for its construction. Batting Average (cricket)
In cricket, a player's batting average is the total number of runs they have scored divided by the number of times they have been out, usually given to two decimal places. Since the number of runs a player scores and how often they get out are primarily measures of their own playing ability, and largely independent of their teammates, batting average is a good metric for an individual player's skill as a batter (although the practice of drawing comparisons between players on this basis is not without criticism).
