John Keene (cricketer)
John William Keene (25 April 1873 – 3 January 1931) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Surrey County Cricket Club, Surrey, Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Worcestershire and Scotland cricket team, Scotland around the turn of the 20th century. Almost exclusively a bowler, his highest score in 36 innings was a mere 12. He later stood twice as an umpire (cricket), umpire: in Scotland's home matches against the Australia cricket team, Australians and South Africa cricket team, South Africans in 1912. Having already made a number of appearances for Surrey Second XI, Keene's first-class debut for the county came against Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Warwickshire at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Edgbaston in June 1897: he took 3–61 in the first innings, his maiden victim being Walter Quaife. John Keene (writer)
John R. Keene Jr. (born 1965 in St. Louis, Missouri) is a writer, translator, professor, and artist who was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2018. His 2022 poetry collection, ''Punks: New and Selected Poems,'' received the National Book Award for Poetry''.'' Biography John Keene was born and raised in the city of St. Louis, and in Webster Groves, in St. Louis County. Raised Catholic, attended parochial schools, and graduated from the Saint Louis Priory School. He has an A.B. from Harvard College, where he was a member of the Harvard Black Community and Student Theater (C.A.S.T.) and served as co-Circulation Manager and on the Art Board of the Harvard Advocate. He received an M.F.A. from New York University, where he was a New York Times Foundation Fellow.
