John Keating (sportscaster)
John Keating is a Bally Sports Detroit host and reporter. He was born in Madison Heights, Michigan. He attended Grand Valley State University. In 2019, Keating won his 16th local Emmy from the Michigan chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Radio career Keating began his broadcasting career while a student at Grand Valley State University. Keating climbed through the ranks of WSRX, Grand Valley's own student run radio station, from broadcaster up to Station Manager. Keating's rise at WSRX led to a job at WZZR, now WLHT, a radio station in nearby Grand Rapids. WZZR already had an on-air personality named "John" on staff. Bally Sports Detroit (BSD) is an American regional sports network owned by Diamond Sports Group that operates as a Bally Sports affiliate. It provides coverage of local sports teams in the state of Michigan, primarily focusing on those in Metro Detroit. Daniel Hill Dickerson (born November 13, 1958) is an American sportscaster, best known for his current position as the lead radio play-by-play voice of Major League Baseball's Detroit Tigers on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network. Early life and education Dickerson grew up in Birmingham, Michigan, the son of James Preston Dickerson (1926–2000) and Rosemary Dickerson (''née'' Wilcox). James was a political science professor at Oakland Community College whom Ronald Reagan appointed in 1981 as the special assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense. Dickerson attended the Cranbrook School in Bloomfield Hills before graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980. In sports broadcasting, a sports commentator (also known as sports announcer or sportscaster) provides a real-time commentary of a game or event, usually during a live broadcast, traditionally delivered in the historical present tense. Radio was the first medium for sports broadcasts, and radio commentators must describe all aspects of the action to listeners who cannot see it for themselves. In the case of televised sports coverage, commentators are usually presented as a voiceover, with images of the contest shown on viewers' screens and sounds of the action and spectators heard in the background. Jim Price (catcher)
Jimmie William Price (born October 13, 1941) is a former professional baseball catcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers from to . He is also the current color commentator for the Detroit Tigers Radio Network. Baseball career Price was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in , and was listed as a top prospect in the Pirates’ early-1960s yearbooks. His best minor league season was , slugging 19 home runs while batting .311 for the Kinston Eagles of the Single-A Carolina League. For Price’s efforts he was named the Pirates Minor League Player of the Year. His MLB debut came with the 1967 Tigers, after his contract was purchased from the Pirates. 1967 was also Price’s best big league season, when he hit .261 in 44 games. Price also played on the 1968 Tigers, who won the World Series over the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.
