John Hunner
John Hunner (November 12, 1844 – May 19, 1918) was an American politician. Born in Buffalo, New York, he moved to Alma, Wisconsin, in 1860, where he was editor of the local paper and became the first president of the village of Alma. After the Civil War, Hunner moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he was a grocer and became the editor of the local paper in 1871. He was elected city clerk of Eau Claire. In 1890, Hunner was elected mayor of Eau Claire. The State Treasurer of Wisconsin is a constitutional officer in the executive branch of the government of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Thirty-six individuals have held the office of State Treasurer since statehood. The incumbent is Sarah Godlewski, a Democrat. Election and term of office The State Treasurer is elected on Election Day in November, and takes office on the first Monday of the next January. There is no limit to the number of terms a State Treasurer may hold. From 1848 to 1968, the State Treasurer was elected to a two-year term in the November general election. Since 1970, following ratification of a constitutional amendment in April 1967, the State Treasurer has been elected to a four-year term.
