The Libertarian Party (LP), formerly known as the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), is an Politics of Australia, Australian political party founded in Canberra in 2001. The party espouses smaller government and supports policies that are based on classical liberal, libertarian principles, such as lower taxes, opposing restrictions on civil liberties, decentralisation, uranium mining, and the relaxation of smoking laws. John Lisseter Humphreys
John Lisseter Humphreys (21 September 1881 – 15 December 1929) was a British colonial administrator, and Governor of North Borneo from 15 October 1926 until his death while on leave in China in December 1929. Humphreys was educated at Bromsgrove School. He was a senior classical scholar of Brasenose College, Oxford and entered the Straits Settlement Civil Service in 1905 as Cadet. Among other appointments he has been a magistrate in Singapore and Penang. He was British Agent at Terengganu from 1916–1919; Adviser at Terengganu from 1919–25, Adviser at Kedah from 1925–1926, before being appointed Governor of North Borneo in October 1926. During his furlough in late 1929, he contracted pneumonia and was rushed to the hospital in Tientsin where he succumbed due to a heart failure on the afternoon of Sunday, 15 December.British North Borneo Herald, 2 January 1930; page 1 J. Desmond John Humphrys (born 17 August 1943) is a Welsh broadcaster. From 1981 to 1987 he was the main presenter for the '' Nine O'Clock News'', the flagship BBC News television programme, and from 1987 until 2019 he presented on the BBC Radio 4 breakfast programme ''Today''. He was the host of the BBC Two television quiz show ''Mastermind'' from 2003 to 2021, for a total of 735 episodes. Humphrys has a reputation as an outspoken and challenging interviewer; occasionally politicians have been critical of his style after being subjected to a tough interview on live radio.
