John Hugo Loudon
Jonkheer John Hugo Loudon Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, KBE (27 June 1905 – 4 February 1996) was the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell from 1952 to 1965 and the president of World Wide Fund for Nature. Early life Born in The Hague, Netherlands, the son of former Shell president Hugo Loudon, John Hugo Loudon got a law degree at Utrecht University. He joined the company in 1930, working in the oilfields of Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela. Career In 1952, Loudon became the head of Shell Petroleum. In this role he tried to prevent discrimination between nationals and non-nationals in the work force. In May 1960, he was featured on Time (magazine), Time magazine's cover. He resigned as the CEO of Shell in 1965 and continued to serve the company as chairman of the board of supervisory directors for the next 11 years. Knight Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Barthold Theodoor Willem van Hasselt (7 November 1896, Leiden - 5 August 1960, Wassenaar) was a Dutch business executive in the Dutch East Indies and the chief executive of Royal Dutch Shell from 1949 to 1951. Family Van Hasselt was the son of Marie Elise Prins (1875-1949) and the physician Sjoerd Folkert Willem van Hasselt (1868-1934). He married Elisabeth Henriette Versteegh (1898-1957) in 1920 and Marion Elizabeth Davidson (1892-1992) in 1938. From the first marriage two daughters were born: Anna Margaretha van Hasselt (1922-1931) and Elisabeth Henriette van Hasselt (1927-2014). The last married Albert Paul Friedrich Freiherr von Westenholz (1921-2011) in 1951, married the actor (1924-1982) in 1960, and finally the architect Rutger Dirk Bleeker (1920-2016) in 1988; she is the mother of art historian Caroline de Westenholz (born 1954).
