John Horne Blackmore
John Horne Blackmore (March 27, 1890 – May 2, 1971) was a Canadian school teacher and principal and Canadian politician. He was one of the first elected members and leaders of the Social Credit Party of Canada, a political party in Canada that promoted the social credit theories of monetary reform. Life and career Born in Sublett, Idaho, he immigrated to Cardston area as a child. He was brought up in a Mormon household. He attended the UofA and Calgary Normal School. Blackmore was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1935 election as Member of Parliament representing Lethbridge, Alberta. The Social Credit movement had swept to power in Alberta in the 1935 Alberta provincial election just weeks earlier. He was chosen the party's parliamentary leader. The Social Credit Party of Canada (french: Parti Crédit social du Canada), colloquially known as the Socreds, was a populist political party in Canada that promoted social credit theories of monetary reform. It was the federal wing of the Canadian social credit movement. The 1940 Canadian federal election was held March 26, 1940, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 19th Parliament of Canada. Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal Party was re-elected to their second consecutive majority government. The election was overshadowed by the Second World War, which caused many Canadians to rally around the government. In response to this, the Conservative Party of Robert Manion ran on a platform advocating the creation of an all-party national unity government and ran under the name " National Government" in this election. Though Manion was personally opposed to conscription, the Liberals faced intense pressure in Quebec on the question and promised not to institute the measure. Ruby Jessop
Ruby Jessop (born May 3, 1986) is an American former member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) and Child marriage, child bride known for her family connections, her 2013 escape from an FLDS-controlled polygamous community, and the criminal probe prompted by her escape. Ruby is the sister of author and ex-FLDS member Flora Jessop. In Flora's book, ''Church of Lies'', she recounts how, as a fourteen-year-old, Ruby called her asking to help her escape after learning that she was to be married off to her second cousin and step-brother, Haven Barlow. Flora writes that while the authorities were contacted, they were unable to locate Ruby as she was being moved from place to place to avoid contact with Flora. Flora Jessop (born 1969) is an American social activist, author, and advocate for abused children. Biography Jessop was born and raised in Colorado City, Arizona. Winston Blackmore (born August 25, 1956) is the leader of a Polygamy, polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Fundamentalist Latter Day Saint religious group in Bountiful, British Columbia, Canada.
