John Holder (cricketer)
John Wakefield Holder (born 19 March 1945 in Superlative, Saint George, Barbados) is an English former first-class cricketer and Test umpire. As a player for Hampshire County Cricket Club (1968–1972) Holder was a brisk right arm medium pace bowler. In the 1970 season, Holder took 55 wickets at 23.27 runs. His best bowling figures were 6 for 49 and 7 for 79 against Gloucestershire in 1972. In 1972, Holder also took a hat-trick against Kent. His career average as a bowler saw him take 139 first-class wickets at 24.56. Holder became a first-class umpire in 1983 and was promoted to officiate his first test-match in 1988. He stood as umpire in eleven Test matches and nineteen One Day Internationals. Holder was appointed by the International Cricket Council as one of five worldwide regional umpires' performance managers and is responsible for monitoring and improving the performances of umpires in Europe, the Caribbean, America and Canada. John Holder (bishop)
John Walder Dunlop Holder (born 1949 in Bath Village, St. John, Barbados) was a Barbadian Anglican archbishop. He was the Anglican Archbishop of the West Indies and held the See of Barbados. He was born at Bath Village, St. John on the island of Barbados and attended the parishes Elementary Mixed School (1953–1958), graduated from the Modern High School and went to Codrington College, a theological college affiliated to the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill. Leaving school, he married Betty Lucas-Holder, with whom he had son Stuart, and began work as a teacher and a civil servant before entering Codrington College in 1971 to be trained for the priesthood for the Diocese of the Windward Islands. He graduated from the college in 1975, having obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theology from the University of the West Indies and a Diploma in Theological Studies of Codrington College. John Wesley Holder (born 1934), known professionally as Ram John Holder, is a Guyanese-British actor and musician, who began his professional career as a singer in New York City, before moving to England in 1962. He has performed on stage, in both film and television and, is best known for playing Augustus "Porkpie" Grant in the British television series ''Desmond's''. Background Holder's parents were devout members of the USA-based Pilgrim Holiness Church. He grew up in Georgetown, Guyana, during the 1940s and 1950s. Influenced by the church and the musical talents of his parents, he became quite accomplished playing the guitar. The Holder Plantation, located in Jackson County, Georgia near its county seat, Jefferson, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The plantation's main house, an I-house mainly built around 1867, and numerous outbuildings on are included in the listing. It has also been known as the Plantation at Jefferson. The I-house is a two-story addition to an earlier 1850s structure that survives as part of a rear ell. It was recognized as a centennial farm in 1993.
