Sir John Hobart, 2nd Baronet
Sir John Hobart, 2nd Baronet (19 April 1593 – 20 April 1647) was an English politician and baronet. Background Born in Norwich, he was the eldest son of Sir Henry Hobart, 1st Baronet, and his wife Dorothy Bell, daughter of Sir Robert Bell. Hobart was knighted at Whitehall on 10 November 1611, and succeeded his father as baronet in 1625. Career Hobart was Member of Parliament for Cambridge in 1621, Lostwithiel from 1624 to 1625 and Brackley in 1626. He then returned to the Long Parliament for Norfolk in 1645, a seat he held until his death in 1647. He was Justice of the Peace for Middlesex from 1624 to 1629 and for Norfolk from 1625 to his death, and was appointed High Sheriff of Norfolk for 1632–33. He completed the building of Blickling Hall, a major Jacobean country house. Family He married firstly in July 1614 Lady Philippa Sidney, a daughter of Robert Sidney, 1st Earl of Leicester. Sir John Hobart, 3rd Baronet
Sir John Hobart, 3rd Baronet (20 March 1628 – 22 August 1683) was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1654 and 1683. Hobart was the son of Sir Miles Hobart (son of Sir Henry Hobart, 1st Baronet), and his wife Frances Peyton, daughter of Sir John Peyton, 1st Baronet, and was born in Ditchingham, Norfolk. He succeeded his uncle John as baronet in 1647. In 1654, Hobart was elected member of parliament for Norfolk in the First Protectorate Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Norfolk in 1656 for the Second Protectorate Parliament. After the Restoration Hobart was appointed Sheriff of Norfolk in 1667 and was host to King Charles II of England at Blickling in 1671. He was elected again as MP for Norfolk in the Cavalier Parliament from 1673 until February 1679 and from May of the same year until his death. John Hobart, 1st Earl Of Buckinghamshire
John Hobart, 1st Earl of Buckinghamshire, (11 October 169322 September 1756) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1715 to 1728, when he was raised to the peerage as Baron Hobart. Early life Hobart was the son of Sir Henry Hobart, 4th Baronet of Blickling and his wife Elizabeth Maynard, and he inherited his father's title when the latter was killed in a duel in 1698. He was admitted at Clare College, Cambridge in 1710. He married firstly Judith Britiffe (half-sister of Elizabeth, wife of William Morden) in 1717 and secondly Elizabeth Bristow in 1728. Career Hobart was returned unopposed as Member of Parliament for St Ives at the 1715 general election. He became Vice Admiral of Norfolk in 1719, holding the post until his death. In 1721 he became Lord of Trade. He was elected MP for St Ives in a contest in 1722. At the 1727 general election he was returned as MP for Bere Alston and for Norfolk. John Hobart, 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire (17 August 17233 August 1793) was a British nobleman and politician. Biography The son of John Hobart, 1st Earl of Buckinghamshire by his first wife Judith Britiffe, he was educated at Westminster School and Christ's College, Cambridge. He was Member of Parliament for Norwich from 1747 to 1756, having also been elected for St Ives in 1747 but opting to sit for Norwich. He held office as Comptroller of the Household in 1755-56 and as a Lord of the Bedchamber from 1756 to 1767, having succeeded his father as Earl in 1756. He was Ambassador from the United Kingdom to Russia from 1762 to 1765 and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1776 to 1780, when his Chief Secretary was Sir Richard Heron, Bt. In the latter role, he had to concede free trade and, more importantly, the enactment of the Papists Act 1778 which partially repealed the Penal laws and provided measures for the relief of Roman Catholics and Dissenters. John Sloss Hobart (May 6, 1738 – February 4, 1805) was a United States senator from New York and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of New York. Education and career Born on May 6, 1738, in Fairfield, Fairfield County, Connecticut Colony, British America, Hobart graduated from Yale University in 1757. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in New York. He was a member of the Committee of Correspondence in 1774. He was a deputy to the Provincial Convention in 1775. He was a deputy to the Provincial Congress of New York from 1775 to 1777. He was a member of the Council of Safety in 1777. He was an associate justice of the Supreme Court of Judicature of New York from 1777 to 1798. He was a member of the Hartford Convention of 1780.
