John Hipwell
John Noel Brian Hipwell (24 January 1948 – 23 September 2013) was an Australian national representative rugby union player who played and captained the Wallabies. He played the majority of his career at scrum half and his representative career spanned 14 seasons from 1968 to 1981. Rugby career Hipwell was a junior and then senior player for the Waratahs Rugby Club in Newcastle NSW where he received tutelage from past Wallaby Cyril Burke. Hipwell's first international game was for NSW Country against the touring British Lions in 1966. He was then selected for the 1966–67 Australia rugby union tour of Britain, Ireland and France although he made no test appearances on that tour. His first Test cap came in 1968 against New Zealand, when he replaced Ken Catchpole who suffered a career-ending injury. Mayfield, New South Wales
Mayfield is a north-western suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, which takes its name from Ada May (born 1874) a daughter of the landowner there, John Scholey. Its boundaries are the Hunter River to the north, the Main Northern railway line to the south ( Waratah station), the railway line to Newcastle Harbour to the east, and open ground to the west. Aboriginal history The Awabakal people are acknowledged as the descendants of the traditional custodians of the land where Mayfield is now located. Material evidence of Aboriginal occupation of the land now known as Mayfield was originally discovered by Daniel F. Cooksey in June 1925. He had located the first specimen of an ''Elouera'', and other stone tools at a number of sites located along the south arm of the Hunter River, and of the former B.H.P Steelworks. 1981–82 Australia Rugby Union Tour Of Britain And Ireland
The 1981–82 Australia rugby union tour of Britain and Ireland was a series of matches played by the Australia national rugby union team (nicknamed the Wallabies). The touring team played twenty-three matches between October 1981 and January 1982, winning sixteen games, drawing one and losing six. The scheduled final game, against the Barbarians, was cancelled due to heavy snow. The team played four international matches but were successful in only one, against . The Wallabies subsequently lost to , and . Although they scored more tries than their opponents in each of the four internationals, the home teams' goal-kicking proved more reliable in every case. Geoff Shaw (rugby)
Geoffrey Arnold Shaw (born 27 December 1948) is an Australian former national representative rugby union player who played for and captained the Wallabies. He made state representative appearances for both New South Wales and Queensland over an eleven-year period from 1969. Rugby career From the Illawarra region as a nineteen-year-old Shaw first represented for New South Wales Country against New Zealand in 1968. The following year he debuted for Australia in a Test match against Wales. In that same year 1969, Shaw was selected to tour with the Wallabies on the 1969 Australia rugby union tour of South Africa. Shaw was one of the new boys in the squad and at 20 years old, the youngest. He played in sixteen of the twenty-six matches including one Test match.
