John Heard Jr. (March 7, 1946 – July 21, 2017) was an American actor. He appeared in a number of successful films, including ''Heart Beat'' (1980), ''Cutter's Way'' (1981), ''Cat People'' (1982), ''Beaches'' (1988), and ''Deceived'' (1991). Other films include ''The Trip to Bountiful'' (1985), ''Big'' (1988), ''The Pelican Brief'' (1993), ''White Chicks'' (2004), and his role as Kevin McCallister's father, Peter, in ''Home Alone'' (1990) and '' Home Alone 2: Lost in New York'' (1992). John William Heard (July 3, 1938 – December 10, 2021) was an American bass player and artist. His recording credits include albums with Pharoah Sanders, George Duke, Oscar Peterson, Count Basie, Zoot Sims, Ahmad Jamal, Frank Morgan, George Cables. His professional jazz performance career lasted from the 1960s to the early 2010s, during which he also worked as a visual artist, producing drawings, paintings, and sculptures. Background He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. He also played saxophone in his early years. He began playing bass at the age of 14. His professional career began in a band that included sax player Booker Ervin, drummer J.C. Moses, pianist Horace Parlan and trumpet player Tommy Turrentine. John Isaac Heard
John Isaac Heard (1787 – 1 September 1862) was an Irish Whig politician. He sat in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1852 to 1859. Born in Kinsale, County Cork, Heard was the son of John Heard and Rachel, daughter of Isaac Servatt. He was admitted to Peterhouse, Cambridge in 1804, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1808. He married Mary Wilkes, daughter of Hope Wilkes, in 1808, and they had six children: Joh Wilkes Heard (1811–1825); Robert Heard (born 1815); Martha Ann Heard (1809–1834); Catherine Jane Heard (born 1810); Mary Heard (born 1812); and, Eleanor (1814–1840). He later became a Justice for the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant and, in 1839, High Sheriff of County Cork. Johnathan James Herd (born 3 October 1989) is an English footballer who plays as a defender for St Ives Town. Playing career Herd made his debut for Southend United away at Telford United, in the 2–2 draw in the FA Cup first round on 8 November 2008 . He was in the Southend United starting line up for the FA Cup third-round game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Southend's equaliser came from a Herd long throw, which was inadvertently flicked on by Ricardo Carvalho for Peter Clarke to score. In May 2011, he was one of five players told they were to be released by the club. On 11 August 2011, Herd signed for Ebbsfleet United, and in early September he scored his first career goal in the away tie at Kidderminster Harriers in a 2–2 draw. John Hurd
John Gavin Hurd (July 2, 1914 – September 6, 2001) was an independent oil and gas producer and cattle rancher who was tapped by Richard Nixon to be the U.S. ambassador to South Africa (1970-1975) under President Nixon. He also competed as a fencer in the 1936 Olympics. Early life While a student at Harvard College, where he studied Italian renaissance history, Hurd was captain of the fencing team and competed in the men’s team foil event at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Hurd graduated in 1934 and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1937. Hurd took up fencing because he failed to make the boxing and football teams. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy as a surface warfare officer on destroyer escorts in the North Atlantic and was awarded a Bronze Star. As a result of his ROTC scholarship, he was commissioned as an Ensign in 1934. He went on active duty in 1941 retired from the Navy with the rank of Commander in 1946.
