John David Hayward (1929–2007) was a British stained glass artist who made nearly 200 windows in churches and cathedrals across Britain and abroad. Early life Hayward was born in Tooting, London into a Methodist family. His father, David Hayward, was a printer and church organist. He was educated at Tooting Bec Grammar School (now Ernest Bevin College) and developed a talent for painting and drawing. After school, he enrolled at St Martin's School of Art. After leaving St. Martin's, Hayward received an offer from Royal College of Art, but he instead joined Faith Craft, a company that designed ecclesiastical furniture. He remained there for 18 years before setting up his own practice as a stained glass artist. John Davy Hayward CBE (2 February 1905 – 17 September 1965) was an English editing, editor, critic, anthologist and bibliophile. Early life Hayward was educated at Gresham's School and in France before going up to King's College, Cambridge in 1923 to read English and modern languages. While still a Cambridge undergraduate, he edited and published the ''Collected Works of the Earl of Rochester''. Career From 1927, Hayward lived in London, working as an editor, critic, anthologist and bibliographer. He edited many of Jonathan Swift's works. In 1929, he edited ''John Donne, Dean of St Paul's: Complete Poetry and Selected Prose'' for the Nonesuch Press. John Hayward (1807–1891) was a Gothic Revival architect based in Exeter, Devon, who gained the reputation as "the senior architect in the west of England". Biography John Hayward was born in London on 26 September 1807, the son of a 'house and ornament painter', John Pearson Hayward and Frances Barry and related to Sir Charles Barry, the designer of the Palace of Westminster, with whom he served as pupil. He was an accomplished painter and draughtsman; by 1826, he was exhibiting at the Royal Academy and, by 1834, he had left Barry and set up practice in Cathedral Yard, Exeter, Devon. Early life Hayward grew up in Emsworth, Hampshire. Despite being born with just one arm and no legs, he earned the Queen's Scout Award after learning to ski and climb mountains. He was also awarded the Cornwell Scout Badge ("the Scout V.C".) in honour of his "pre-eminently high character and devotion to duty".
