John Hastings, 1st Baron Hastings
John Hastings, 1st Baron Hastings (6 May 1262 – 28 February 1313), feudal Lord of Abergavenny, was an English peer and soldier. He was one of the Competitors for the Crown of Scotland in 1290/92 in the Great Cause and signed and sealed the Barons' Letter of 1301. He was Lord of the Manor of Hunningham. Origins He was born in 1262 at Allesley, near Coventry in Warwickshire, the eldest son of Henry de Hastings (c. 1235 – c. 1268) who was summoned to Parliament by Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester as Lord Hastings in 1263. Although following the defeat of de Montfort this peerage creation was not recognized by King Henry III, John Hastings is sometimes referred to as the second Baron Hastings. John Hastings (Ontario Politician)
John Hastings (born March 16, 1942) is a Canadian politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1995 to 2003. Background Hastings has degrees from the University of Western Ontario (1963) and the University of Toronto (1967). He worked as a political researcher, and as a teacher in Ontario's Secondary School system. In 1975, he worked as executive assistant to provincial cabinet minister Lorne Henderson. Hastings was a member of the Worker's Compensation Board from 1977 to 1994, and also served on the Advisory Board of the Institute of Study of Antisocial behaviour in Youth before entering public life. Politics Hastings ran for the City of Toronto's Hydro Commission in 1985, and was elected on the second position. John Woodland "Woody" Hastings, (March 24, 1927 – August 6, 2014) was a leader in the field of photobiology, especially bioluminescence, and was one of the founders of the field of circadian biology (the study of circadian rhythms, or the sleep-wake cycle). He was the Paul C. Mangelsdorf Professor of Natural Sciences and Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University. He published over 400 papers and co-edited three books. Hastings research on bioluminescence principally focused on bacterial luminescence (over 150 papers) and dinoflagellates (over 80 papers). In addition to bacteria and dinoflagellates, he, with his students and colleagues, also published papers on the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of light production in fungi, cnidarians, ctenophores, polychaetes, insects (fireflies and dipterans), ostracod crustaceans, millipedes, tunicates, and fishes with bacterial light organs. John Wayne Hastings (born 4 November 1985) is a former Australian international cricketer who played for the Victoria cricket team. He played as an all-rounder. In October 2017, he announced his retirement from Test and One Day International cricket. Later that month, he retired from all forms of cricket following a lung condition. John Hastings, 2nd Baron Hastings (29 September 1287 – 20 January 1325) was a medieval English Baron. He was Lord of the Manor of Hunningham. John Simpson Hastings (June 30, 1898 – February 7, 1977) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Early life and education John Simpson Hastings was born June 30, 1898, in Washington, Indiana. He graduated from Washington High School in 1916 and attended Indiana University from 1916 to 1918. He left IU to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. Hastings received a Bachelor of Science degree from West Point in 1920 and a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Field Artillery. He reached the rank of first lieutenant before resigning from the army in 1921. After leaving the army, Hastings entered the Indiana University School of Law.
