John Harwood (watchmaker)
John Harwood (1893–1964) was a British watchmaker who invented a Automatic watch, self-winding wristwatch. Early life Harwood was born in Bolton, Lancashire. During World War I he served as an armoury staff sergeant, developing an Machine pistol, automatic pistol and a screwdriver whose blade turned on impact. Career After the war he served a watchmaking apprenticeship with Hirst Brothers and Co of Oldham. In 1922 he moved to the Isle of Man to set up his own watch repair business. In 1923, supported by a local businessman, he developed a self-winding wristwatch and applied for a patent in Switzerland, which was granted in September, 1924. His design ensured that the watch could be hermetically sealed against the ingress of water or dust. The hands could be reset by a rotating bezel. John Harwood (writer)
John Harwood (born 1946) was born in Hobart, Tasmania and is an Australian poet, literary critic and novelist. Biography Educated at the University of Tasmania and Cambridge University, Harwood has worked as an academic at Flinders University in South Australia. He left Flinders University in 1997 to become a full-time writer. While he is better known for his writing on poetry, Harwood made an impact with his first novel, ''The Ghost Writer'', which was commended in literary awards in Australia and which was a winner of a major International Horror award. Harwood is the son of the poet Gwen Harwood. John Harwood (journalist)
John Harwood (born November 5, 1956) is an American journalist who worked as White House Correspondent for CNN from February 2021 until September 2022. Harwood was formerly an editor-at-large for CNBC. He was the chief Washington Correspondent for CNBC and a contributor for ''The New York Times''. He wrote a weekly column entitled "The Caucus" that appeared on Monday about Washington politics and policy. Before joining the ''Times'', he wrote for ''The Wall Street Journal''. Early life and education Harwood's father, Richard Harwood, was a reporter and writer for ''The Louisville Times'' and ''The Washington Post''. According to John Harwood's article in ''The Washington Post'' (April 30, 2000, page B4), Harwood's mother was an active campaigner for the presidential campaign of Robert F. Kennedy in 1968.
