John Harris (golfer)
John Richard Harris (born June 13, 1952) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour. Early life and amateur career Harris was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and grew up in Roseau, Minnesota. He attended the University of Minnesota where he distinguished himself in both golf and hockey. Harris was the second-leading scorer on his 1974 hockey team that went on to win the national championship. In addition, his brother Robbie was a talented hockey player and played for the U.S. ice hockey team at the 1976 Winter Olympics. In the spring of 1974, Harris won the individual Big Ten championship in golf. In the summer, he also won the 1974 Minnesota State Amateur. Professional career Harris played minor league hockey after college and then became a professional golfer in 1975. 1994 Eisenhower Trophy
The 1994 Eisenhower Trophy took place 6 to 9 October on the Albatros course at Le Golf National and on La Vallée course at La Boulie near Versailles, France. It was the 19th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 45 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. Initially each team played one round on each of the two courses. The leading 24 teams then played two further rounds at Le Golf National while the remaining teams played two rounds at La Boulie. The United States won the Eisenhower Trophy for the first time since 1982, finishing 11 strokes ahead of the silver medalists, Great Britain and Ireland. Eisenhower Trophy
The Eisenhower Trophy (World Men's Amateur Team Championships) is the biennial World Amateur Team Championship for men organized by the International Golf Federation. Since the tournament was first played in 1958, it is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the President of the United States at the time, who was a keen amateur golfer. The equivalent competition for women is the Espirito Santo Trophy. Results The 1958 championship resulted in a tie. There was an 18-hole playoff which Australia won with a score of 222 to the United States 224. From 1958 to 2000 the teams had four players with the best three scores counting for each round. Walker Cup
The Walker Cup is a golf trophy contested in odd-numbered years by leading male amateur golfers in two teams: United States, and Great Britain and Ireland. The official name is the Walker Cup Match (not "Matches" as in Ryder Cup Matches). It is organised by The R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA). In 1921 the Royal Liverpool Golf Club hosted an unofficial contest which was followed by official annual contests from 1922 through 1924. From 1925 they became biennial, held on even-number years. After World War II they switched to odd-numbered years. They are held alternately in the U.S., and Ireland or Britain. Thomas Wayne Jenkins (born December 14, 1947) is an American professional golfer. Born in Houston, Texas, Jenkins attended the University of Houston, where he was a member of the NCAA University Division championship team in 1970, led by John Mahaffey. The 2006 Champions Tour was the 27th season for the golf tour now known as PGA Tour Champions since it officially began in 1980 as the Senior PGA Tour. The season consisted of 28 official money events with purses totalling $50,950,000, including five majors. One other tournament, the Bank of America Championship, with a purse of $1,600,000, was canceled due to severe weather. Jay Haas and Loren Roberts won the most tournaments, four.
