John Halbert
John Arno Halbert (born 5 September 1937) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Sturt Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). A member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame, Halbert has had a long involvement in Australian rules football in South Australia, as a player, coach and administrator. Halbert was also a Bradman Medalist in the 1961/62 & 1964/65 seasons, denoting the greatest domestic cricketer in the State for that season. He is the only person in history to claim the title of Magarey Medalist and Bradman Medalist. Playing career Halbert was a centreman and first played for Sturt in 1955. In his debut season he finished second in the Magarey Medal count to Lindsay Head and in 1958 was again the runner up with Head winning another Medal. He also polled well in 1960 but again finished second, this time losing to Barrie Barbary. The Medal was finally his in 1961, his 20 votes enough to hold off the challengers. ... Hyde Park, South Australia
Hyde Park is an affluent inner-southern suburb of Adelaide in the City of Unley. It features King William Road, a popular shopping and dining destination in Adelaide. It is home to some of Adelaide's most expensive and luxurious properties. Millswood railway station and the Belair railway line are close to Hyde Park. Until the 1950s a tram line ran to Hyde Park. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. Mervyn Keane
Mervyn Keane (pronounced: "cane") (born 29 July 1953), commonly known as Merv Keane, is a former Australian rules football player and coach who played in the VFL/AFL, VFL between 1972 and 1984 for the Richmond Football Club. Predominantly a back pocket or half-back flanker, Keane later showed his versatility by frequently playing as a ruck-rover. He was generally regarded as one of the most underrated players in the VFL, and did not poll a Brownlow Medal vote in his first ten seasons. Although Keane was in Richmond’s zoning (Australian rules football), country zone, he mistakenly trained with Melbourne Football Club, Melbourne before joining the Tigers.
