John Greenwood (10 March 1851 – 31 August 1935) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Surrey. He was born in Epsom and died in Lewes. John Greenwood (bus Operator)
John Greenwood (born 1788, died 1851), transport entrepreneur, was the keeper of a toll-gate in Pendleton on the Manchester to Liverpool turnpike. In 1824 he purchased a horse and a cart with several seats and began an omnibus service, probably the first one in the United Kingdom, between Pendleton and Manchester. His pioneering idea was to offer a service where, unlike with a stagecoach, no prior booking was necessary and the driver would pick up or set down passengers anywhere on request. Later on he added daily services to Buxton, Chester, and Sheffield. John Greenwood, and a number of competitors, created a network of omnibus services, often acting as feeders to the railways. When he died in 1851 he left a flourishing business to his son, also named John (II) (b. 12 May 1818, d. 21 March 1886), which in that year became the Manchester Carriage Company. Jonny Greenwood
Jonathan Richard Guy Greenwood (born 5 November 1971) is an English musician and composer. He is the lead guitarist and keyboardist of the alternative rock band Radiohead, and has written numerous film scores. Along with his elder brother, the Radiohead bassist Colin, Greenwood attended Abingdon School in Abingdon near Oxford, England, where he met the future band members. The youngest of the group, Greenwood was the last to join, first playing keyboards and harmonica but soon becoming lead guitarist. He abandoned a degree in music when the band signed to Parlophone; their debut single, " Creep", (1992) was distinguished by Greenwood's aggressive guitar work. John Greenwood, QC (24 July 1800 – 12 February 1871) was an English lawyer and sportsman; he was Treasury Solicitor from 1866 to his death in 1871, and had played first-class cricket for Cambridge University in 1820–21. Biography John Greenwood was born in Tunbridge Wells and was the third son of William Greenwood (died 1844) of Brookwood Park in Hampshire; his elder brother was George Greenwood (1799–1875), a cornet and regarded by Frederic Boase as the "best breaker in of horses of his day" whose 1839 book ''Hints on Horsemanship'' was regarded by the same as "the best book on the subject ever done". John Greenwood (born 4 February 1821 in Ryshworth Hall, near Bradford; died 21 February 1874, Pimlico, Middlesex) was an English politician who served as Liberal M.P for Ripon, then in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Family life John Greenwood was the only son of Frederick Greenwood and Sarah Staniforth. The Greenwood family resided at Swarcliffe Hall near Harrogate and well regarded in the area. His mother was the daughter of Samuel Staniforth and the granddaughter of Thomas Staniforth who both held the title of Lord Mayor of Liverpool, and who originated from the Staniforth family that built Darnall Hall in Sheffield. He was a student of Lincoln's Inn and earned a B.A in 1851 and M.A in 1860. John Ward Greenwood (born 29 April 1934) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Greenwood was born in Kingsford, New South Wales, the son of Albert Francis Greenwood and his wife Lila (née Ward). He was educated at various state schools across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria before attending Church of England Grammar School. He then graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Arts in 1957 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1958. He was admitted to the bar in 1958 and the next year was practicing as a barrister until 1976. He was also a part-time lecturer in commercial law 1962-1965 and a captain in Reserve Army Legal Corps. John Robert Greenwood (4 June 1950 – 4 May 2008) was a British businessman and catering executive. He was chief executive of the Roadchef chain of motorway service stations from 2001 to 2004. Born in Bromley in 1950 Greenwood attended The Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, he trained to be an accountant passing his exams on his third attempt. In 1975 he joined Balfour Beatty, the engineering and construction group, and four years he later moved to South Africa with his wife. He returned to Britain in 1982. In 1986 he joined Compass, the global catering giant. Within three years he had made managing director of the healthcare division and built up its hospital portfolio to fifteen hospitals and three nursing homes. John Greenwood Sr. (1727–1792) was an early American portrait painter, engraver and auctioneer. Life Greenwood was born on 7 December 1727 in Boston, Massachusetts, and baptized on 10 December in the Old North Church, Boston. His father died insolvent in 1742 and at about this time Greenwood apprenticed to Thomas Johnston, a Boston line engraver, sign painter, and japanner. According to his son's later account, Greenwood soon left Johnston's studio in order to pursue portraiture. He left Boston in 1752 and traveled to the Dutch colony of Surinam in northeast South America. He stayed there for over five years, during which time he executed 115 portraits, before traveling again, this time to Europe, arriving in Amsterdam in May 1758. He settled there for a time to learn the art of making mezzotints, and was documented as a member of the Amsterdam Drawing Academy in 1758 by Jacob Otten Husly. John Eric Greenwood (known as Jenny Greenwood) was a rugby union international who represented England national rugby union team, England from 1912 to 1920. He also captained his country. During what would have been the prime of his playing career he fought in the First World War. Early life Jenny Greenwood was born on 23 July 1891 in Lewisham. He attended Dulwich College. Rugby union career Greenwood learnt his rugby at Dulwich College, before which he had been a keen soccer player.
