John Greene (MP)
John Greene (died 16 June 1883) was an Irish landowner and politician from County Kilkenny. At the 1847 general election, Greene was elected to the United Kingdom House of Commons in Westminster as one of the two Members of Parliament (MPs) for the County Kilkenny constituency. He was re-elected at the next three general elections, and held the seat until his defeat at the 1865 general election by George Leopold Bryan. County Kilkenny
County Kilkenny ( gle, Contae Chill Chainnigh) is a county in Ireland. It is in the province of Leinster and is part of the South-East Region. It is named after the city of Kilkenny. Kilkenny County Council is the local authority for the county. As of the 2022 census the population of the county was just over 100,000. The county was based on the historic Gaelic kingdom of Ossory (''Osraighe''), which was coterminous with the Diocese of Ossory. Leopold Agar-Ellis, 5th Viscount Clifden
Leopold George Frederick Agar-Ellis, 5th Viscount Clifden (13 May 1829 – 10 September 1899), known as Leopold Agar-Ellis until 1895, was a British Liberal politician. Early life Born in London, Clifden was the second son of George Agar-Ellis, 1st Baron Dover, eldest son of Henry Ellis, 2nd Viscount Clifden. His mother was Lady Georgiana, daughter of George Howard, 6th Earl of Carlisle. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, and was called to the Bar, Inner Temple, in 1854. Career Between 1855 and 1858 and 1859 and 1864 Clifden served as Aide-de-Camp to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland, his uncle the Earl of Carlisle. He also sat as Member of Parliament for County Kilkenny from 1857 to 1874. In 1895 he succeeded his nephew as fifth Viscount Clifden and fourth Baron Dover and entered the House of Lords. William Shee
Sir William Shee (24 June 1804 – 1868) was an Anglo-Irish politician, lawyer and judge, the first Roman Catholic judge to sit in England and Wales since the Reformation. Early life and legal career Shee was born in Finchley, Middlesex. His father, Joseph, was a merchant from Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Ireland, his mother, Teresa ''née'' Darell. Nicholas Wiseman was a cousin. He was initially educated at the school for French refugees founded by the Abbé Carron in Somers Town and where Hughes Felicité Robert de Lamennais taught. In 1818 he joined Wiseman as a student at St. Cuthbert's College, Ushaw. He also attended Edinburgh University where he joined The Speculative Society.
