John Grant (Queensland Politician)
John Bramwell Grant (born 1954) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal National Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2012 to 2015, representing the electorate of Springwood. Grant was born in Brisbane, and operated his own building design and drafting company before entering politics. He was elected to the Logan City council in 1997, and was deputy mayor from 2004 to 2008. He was narrowly defeated at the 2008 council elections by Aidan McLindon, but regained his council seat in 2009 upon McLindon's election to parliament. He contested Woodridge as an independent at the 2001 state election, polling 10.9% of the vote. Grant joined the Liberal National Party in October 2010, citing dissatisfaction with the Labor government's water policy. Aidan McLindon
Aidan Patrick McLindon (born 26 February 1980) is an Australian politician. He was first elected for the seat of Beaudesert to the Queensland State Parliament for the Liberal National Party at the 2009 state election. He resigned from that party to become an independent in May 2010, and in June 2010 he established The Queensland Party, which he merged with Katter's Australian Party in August 2011. He lost his seat to the LNP at the 2012 election. Bob Katter appointed McLindon as National Director for the newly created Katter's Australian Party. 18 months later McLindon resigned to spend more time with his family. McLindon established an independent political consultancy, AMac Consultants Pty Ltd, following the 2013 federal election. 2015 Queensland State Election
The 2015 Queensland state election was held on 31 January 2015 to elect all 89 members of the unicameral Legislative Assembly of Queensland. The centre-right Liberal National Party (LNP), led by Premier Campbell Newman, attempted to win a second term but was defeated by the opposition centre-left Australian Labor Party (ALP), led by Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk. Labor formed a minority government with the support of the lone independent MP in the chamber, Peter Wellington. It is only the seventh change of government in Queensland since 1915, and only the third time since 1932 that a sitting government in the state has failed to win a second term. The 2012 Queensland state election was held on 24 March 2012 to elect all 89 members of the Legislative Assembly, a unicameral parliament. The Labor Party (ALP), led by Premier Anna Bligh, was defeated by the opposition Liberal National Party (LNP), led by Campbell Newman. It is only the sixth time that Queenslanders have ousted a sitting government since 1915. The ALP was attempting to win a ninth consecutive election victory, having won every general election since 1989, despite being out of office between 1996 and 1998. The Parliament of Queensland is the legislature of Queensland, Australia. As provided under the Constitution of Queensland, the Parliament consists of the Monarch of Australia and the Legislative Assembly. 2001 Queensland State Election
An election was held in the Australian state of Queensland on 17 February 2001 to elect the 89 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The result of the election was the return of the Labor Party (ALP) government of Premier Peter Beattie, with an increased majority. Labor won 66 seats, easily the most it has ever won in Queensland and one of Labor's best-ever results nationwide. There was a 10.07% swing towards Labor, while One Nation suffered a 13.98% swing against it, losing eight seats (five of which were held by the newly formed City Country Alliance after an internal split in December 1999). Woodridge is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The district is based in the southern suburbs of Brisbane. It is named for the suburb of Woodridge and also takes in the suburbs of Crestmead, Kingston, Logan Central, Marsden and Slacks Creek. The electorate was first created for the 1977 election. Woodridge has been held by the Labor Party for all but a few months of its existence, when Mike Kaiser briefly served as an independent after being forced to resign from the party for branch-stacking a decade earlier. Since the 1980s, it has usually been one of Labor's safest seats. Logan City
Logan City is a local government area situated within the south of the Brisbane metropolitan area in South East Queensland, Australia. Situated between the City of Brisbane to the north and the City of Gold Coast to the south, the City also borders the Scenic Rim Region, the City of Ipswich, and Redland City LGAs.
