John Gordon-Sinclair
John Gordon Sinclair (born Gordon John Sinclair; 4 February 1962) is a Scottish actor, voice actor, singer, and novelist. He is best known for portraying Gregory in the 1981 film ''Gregory's Girl''. There was a Gordon Sinclair already registered with Equity, so he took John Gordon Sinclair as his professional name. In 2019, Sinclair played Drew Cubbin in the BBC drama ''Traces''. Life and career Sinclair was born on 4 February 1962 in Glasgow and started work as an apprentice electrician. At 15 he joined Glasgow's Youth Theatre after he visited one night and met Robert Buchanan, a fellow fan of Canadian progressive rock group Rush. As a result, he starred in a number of films by director Bill Forsyth, perhaps the most notable of which is 1981's ''Gregory's Girl'', shot when he was 19 years old. ''Hot Metal'' (1986–88) is a British sitcom produced by London Weekend Television about the newspaper industry. Written by David Renwick and Andrew Marshall, it is very much a continuation in style from their previous sitcom '' Whoops Apocalypse!''. It was produced by Humphrey Barclay. Synopsis The ''Daily Crucible'', the dullest newspaper in Fleet Street, is suddenly taken over by media magnate Terence "Twiggy" Rathbone (Robert Hardy) (an obvious parody of real-life magnates, especially Rupert Murdoch and Robert Maxwell). ''Your Cheatin' Heart'' is a BBC Scotland six-part comedy drama serial, broadcast in 1990 and written by John Byrne. It starred Tilda Swinton, John Gordon-Sinclair, Katy Murphy, Eddi Reader and Ken Stott. The format is similar to Byrne's earlier serial Tutti Frutti but the tone is much darker. John Byrne (Scottish Playwright)
John Patrick Byrne (born 6 January 1940) is a Scottish playwright and artist. He wrote ''The Slab Boys Trilogy'', plays which explore working-class life in Scotland, and the TV dramas ''Tutti Frutti'' and ''Your Cheatin' Heart''. Byrne is also a painter, printmaker and theatre designer. Life John Patrick Byrne was born into a family of Irish Catholic descent in Paisley, Renfrewshire and he grew up in the Ferguslie Park housing scheme. He was educated at the town's St Mirin's Academy and attended Glasgow School of Art from 1958–63. His mother, Alice McShane, was married to Patrick Byrne when he was born. Byrne was conceived from incestuous abuse between his mother and her father, Patrick McShane. He did not know the truth about his parentage until he was informed by his cousin in 2002. ''That Was The Team That Was'' is a Scottish television programme that documented successful time periods for Scottish football sides. The show was broadcast on BBC One Scotland every Friday night (when there was a series ongoing) and has recently ended its third series. Its title is derived from the 1960s BBC satire ''That Was The Week That Was''. It was produced by Brendan O'Hara of BBC Scotland. "We Have A Dream" was a special single released as the official song of the Scotland national football team for their 1982 World Cup Campaign. When first released, it reached number 5 in the UK Singles Chart. 2008 version The single was re-released in 2008 to raise money for BBC Children In Need, featuring a host of celebrities and produced by original writer BA Robertson. The celebrities included Samuel L. Jackson, Ashley Jensen, Dougray Scott, Billy Boyd, Chris Hoy, Ally McCoist, Fred MacAulay, Karen Dunbar and Elaine C. The 1982 FIFA World Cup was the 12th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial Association football, football tournament for men's senior national teams, and was played in Spain between 13 June and 11 July 1982. Dr Finlay is a fictional character, the hero of a series of stories by Scottish author A. J. Cronin. Short stories The character Dr Finlay first appeared in Cronin's novella ''Country Doctor'' and in several subsequent short stories published in '' Hearst's International Combined with Cosmopolitan'' magazine from 1935 to 1939. The stories were later collected and republished under several titles, including ''Adventures of a Black Bag'', ''Dr Finlay of Tannochbrae'', ''Further Adventures of a Country Doctor'' and ''Dr Finlay's Casebook''. Iain Banks (16 February 1954 – 9 June 2013) was a Scottish author, writing mainstream fiction as Iain Banks and science fiction as Iain M. Banks, adding the initial of his adopted middle name Menzies (). After the success of ''The Wasp Factory'' (1984), he began to write full time. His first science fiction book, ''Consider Phlebas'', appeared in 1987, marking the start of the Culture series. His books have been adapted for theatre, radio and television.
