John Glen (1744–1799)
John Glen (July 26, 1744 – May 1799) was an American politician who served as the first Chief Justice of Georgia (1776–1778) and Mayor of Savannah (1797–1798). Biography Glen was born on May 4, 1758, in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Ann (née Alricks) and William Glen. In 1767, after graduating in law, he moved to Savannah, Georgia, where he started his own legal practice. In 1769, he was elected to the lower Assembly in the Georgia colonial legislature. In 1776, he was elected as Georgia's first Chief Justice; he served until 1778. John Glen (1809–1895) was born in Laurens, South Carolina, and moved to Decatur, Georgia, in 1826, where he worked as a clerk in the Superior Court of DeKalb County. He moved to Atlanta in 1850 to work for the Georgia Railroad, which he did for 41 years. He acted as mayor of that city, taking over when Allison Nelson suddenly resigned in 1855. John Philip Glen (born 1 April 1974) is a British politician and former management consultant serving as Chief Secretary to the Treasury since October 2022 and Member of Parliament (MP) for Salisbury in Wiltshire since 2010. Glen is a member of the Conservative Party. Formerly Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Arts, Heritage and Tourism at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Glen served as Economic Secretary to the Treasury from January 2018 to July 2022. Early life and career Glen was born in Bath on 1 April 1974, and was brought up in a family horticultural business in rural Wiltshire. He was privately educated at King Edward's School, Bath, where he was head boy, and Mansfield College, Oxford, where he read modern history and was elected president of Mansfield College JCR.
