John George (Royal Navy Officer)
John George (died 24 May 1690) was an officer of the Royal Navy. George served during the Nine Years' War and in the war's American derivation, King William's War. During his service in North America, George commanded the frigate HMS ''Rose''. He first sailed from Britain in the ''Rose'' on 20 January 1686, transporting Edmund Randolph. Randolph had been appointed secretary of the Dominion of New England, an entity formed out of a union of England's colonies in the American northeast. The ''Rose'' was stationed near Boston until 1689; it was anchored offshore during the 1689 Boston revolt, an uprising of Massachusetts Puritans against the Dominion and its governor, Sir Edmund Andros. The rebels, whose force consisted of Puritan militia units and a "mob" of Bostonians, succeeded in overthrowing Andros and his council. John George (d.o.b./d.o.d unknown) was a Californian politician and the first African American elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. George served as supervisor for the Alameda County's District 5 for over ten years from December 1976 to January 1989. A psychiatric hospital administered by the Alameda County Medical Center, the John George Psychiatric Pavilion opened in 1992 and was named after George to honor his advocacy for the mentally ill. John George ( ar, جون جورج; born Tufei Fatella, January 20, 1898 – August 25, 1968) was an actor who appeared in at least 130 movies from 1916 to 1960. George worked in films of all genres alongside countless stars although often for only the briefest of appearances, uncredited. Early years George was born in Aleppo, Syria. Little is known about his early life but he immigrated to the United States around 1911 and searched for his mother and sisters who seem to have settled in the Nashville, Tennessee, area. John George PC, QC (18 November 1804 – 15 December 1871) was an Irish politician and judge. Background George was born in Dublin, the eldest son of John George (died 1837), of Dublin, a merchant (who later became a landowner in County Wexford), by Emily Jane Fox, daughter of Richard Fox. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin. Trinity College Dublin conferred on him the degrees of BA in 1823, and MA in 1826. Legal and judicial career George was called to the Irish Bar at the King's Inns. On 16 May 1827, he was also called to the English bar at Gray's Inn, London. Having returned to Ireland, he was appointed a Queen's Counsel on 2 November 1844. George became a Bencher of King's Inns in 1849. Sir John Clarke George, KBE, CStJ (16 October 190114 October 1972) was a British coalminer and politician. He was one of a very small number of Conservative Members of Parliament to have been working miners. Early life George's father, also called John Clarke George, was a miner from Fife. After attending Ballingry Public School until the age of 14, George began work in the coal mines. However he later trained for management, and rose through the ranks; by 1938 he was appointed Manager of New Cumnock Collieries. Business life In 1946, he left the mining industry ( the act nationalising the industry was passed that year), and became manager of Alloa Glass Works. At this point, he became active in politics as a Unionist and, in 1949, he was elected to Clackmannanshire County Council.
