John French, 3rd Earl Of Ypres
John Richard Charles Lambart French, 3rd Earl of Ypres (30 December 1921 – 4 March 1988) was a British soldier and peer, a member of the House of Lords. Born in 1921, French was the son of John French, 2nd Earl of Ypres and his wife Olivia Mary John. He was educated at Winchester College and fought in the Second World War between 1939 and 1945, rising to the rank of Captain in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. Earl of Ypres was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was a victory title, referring to the Flemish city of Ypres, which gave its name the Salient of Ypres, site of extremely bloody fighting in the Great War. History It was created on 5 June 1922 for Field Marshal John French, 1st Viscount French. He was Chief of the Imperial General Staff from 1912 to 1914, Commander of the British Expeditionary Force in the First World War from 1914 to 1915 and Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland from 1919 to 1922. Edward Gerald Fleming French (11 December 1883 – 17 September 1970) was an English cricketer. French was a left-handed batsman, although his bowling style is unknown. He was born in Woburn Sands, Buckinghamshire. He was the son of John French, 1st Earl of Ypres. Educated at Sandroyd School then Wellington College where he represented the college cricket team, French later made his first-class debut for the Marylebone Cricket Club against Scotland in 1922. In 1924, he made his Minor Counties Championship debut for Devon against the Surrey Second XI. From 1924 to 1927, he represented the county in 20 Championship matches, the last of which came against the Kent Second XI. Nine years later, he made his second and final first-class appearance for the Marylebone Cricket Club against Ireland at Observatory Lane, Dublin. Chelsea, London
Chelsea is an affluent area in west London, England, due south-west of Charing Cross by approximately 2.5 miles. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames and for postal purposes is part of the south-western postal area. Chelsea historically formed a manor and parish in the Ossulstone hundred of Middlesex, which became the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea in 1900. It merged with the Metropolitan Borough of Kensington, forming the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea upon the creation of Greater London in 1965.
