John Fonfara
John W. Fonfara (born December 1, 1955) is an American politician serving as a member of the Connecticut State Senate for the 1st district. Early life and education Fonfara was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut and attended Hartford Public Schools. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Arts in Public Policy from Trinity College. Career Fonfara served as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1997. Elected to the Connecticut State Senate in 1996, he also serves as deputy majority leader. His district includes Hartford and Wethersfield. Since 2017, Fonfara has served as co-chair of the Senate Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, which manages Connecticut's budget. The Connecticut State Senate is the upper house of the Connecticut General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Connecticut. The state senate comprises 36 members, each representing a district with around 99,280 inhabitants. Senators are elected to two-year terms without term limits. WTIC-TV (channel 61) is a television station in Hartford, Connecticut, United States, serving the Hartford–New Haven market as an affiliate of the Fox network. It is owned by Tegna Inc. alongside Waterbury-licensed CW affiliate WCCT-TV (channel 20). Both stations share studios on Broad Street in downtown Hartford, while WTIC-TV's transmitter is located on Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington. The station was established in 1984 as an independent station, securing the Fox affiliation at the network's launch in 1986. The affiliation gave the station ratings success and the backing to launch a local newscast. Luke Aaron Bronin (born June 30, 1979) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 67th and current Mayor of Hartford, Connecticut, since January 1, 2016. He previously served as general counsel for the Governor of Connecticut, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy. Before that, he served in two senior posts at the United States Department of the Treasury during President Barack Obama's first term: as Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of the Treasury and then as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes. Elections are currently held every four years to elect the mayor of Hartford, Connecticut. Until 1969, rather than being individually elected, a mayor was chosen from among the members of The Hartford City Council. From 1969 onward, partisan direct elections have been held to sleet the city's mayor. Elections were originally to two year terms. On November 5, 2002, residents of Hartford voted to make changes to the Hartford City Charter, which would take effect on January 1, 2004.
