John Folliott (1660–1697)
Colonel John Folliott or Ffolliott, of Ballymacward (1660–1697) was an Irish politician. He was the eldest son of John Ffolliott of Ballyshannon by his wife Johanna, daughter of Dr Edward Synge; Francis Folliott, M.P. was his younger brother. Ballymacward
Ballymacward () is a village in County Galway, Ireland, on the R359 regional road between the main road and rail networks which traverse east-west, 24 kilometres from Ballinasloe and approximately 48 kilometres from Galway City. It was once part of the kingdom of the Soghain of Connacht. It lies 4 km north of Woodlawn railway station. This station opened in 1858 and was closed for goods traffic in 1978. Ballyshannon Castle
Ballyshannon Castle was a castle at Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland. The castle was a stronghold of the O’Donnell's. No visual remains of the castle exist above ground. History Niall Garbh Ó Domhnaill built Ballyshannon Castle in 1423 to command the ford over the River Erne. The castle was captured and sacked by Conn Bacach O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone in 1522. Edward Synge (bishop Of Cork, Cloyne And Ross)
Edward Synge (died 1678) was an Anglican clergyman who served in the Church of Ireland as the Bishop of Limerick, Ardfert and Aghadoe (1661–1663) and subsequently the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross (1663–1678). A native of Bridgnorth in Shropshire, England, he was educated at Drogheda Grammar School and Trinity College, Dublin. While he was the Dean of Elphin, he was nominated the bishop of Limerick on 6 August 1660 and consecrated on 27 January 1661. He became the bishop of Limerick, Ardfert and Aghadoe when the Anglican sees of Limerick and Ardfert and Aghadoe were united in 1661. Sir John Bernard Burke, (5 January 1814 – 12 December 1892) was a British genealogist and Ulster King of Arms, who helped publish ''Burke's Peerage''. Personal life Burke, of Irish descent, was born at London and was educated in London and France. His father, John Burke (1787–1848), was also a notable genealogist who first produced, in 1826, a ''Genealogical and Heraldic Dictionary of the Peerage and Baronetage of the United Kingdom''. This work, generally known as ''Burke's Peerage'', was issued annually starting in 1847. The Irish House of Commons was the lower house of the Parliament of Ireland that existed from 1297 until 1800. The upper house was the House of Lords. The membership of the House of Commons was directly elected, but on a highly restrictive franchise, similar to the unreformed House of Commons in contemporary England and Great Britain. Catholics were disqualified from sitting in the Irish parliament from 1691, even though they comprised the vast majority of the Irish population. The Irish executive, known as the Dublin Castle administration, under the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, was not answerable to the House of Commons but to the British government. However, the Chief Secretary for Ireland was usually a member of the Irish parliament. In the Commons, business was presided over by the Speaker.
