John Foley (Bushranger)
John Foley (183326 February 1891) was a bushranger and associate of Fred Lowry. In July 1863 they robbed several mail coaches, including the Mudgee mail robbery which netted £5,700 in bank-notes. Foley was captured several weeks later with bank-notes from the Mudgee mail in his possession. He was tried at Bathurst and sentenced to fifteen-years hard labour. Foley was released in 1873; he settled in the Black Springs district near Oberon and led a respectable life until his death in 1891. William Cummings (Australian Politician)
William Cummings (1 February 1803 – 22 January 1878) was an Irish-born Australian politician. He was the son of pastoralist Keenan Cummings and Elizabeth Shelly, and migrated to New South Wales around 1822. He became a pastoralist and squatter, acquiring extensive land in the Wellington and Lachlan districts. On 19 October 1829 he married Mary Ducey; they would have eleven children. Hartley, New South Wales
Hartley is a historical village in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia, within the City of Lithgow local government area, located approximately west of the Sydney central business district. Hartley is located below the western escarpment of the Blue Mountains. It was once a major administrative centre on the Great Western Highway. It has since fallen into decline, replaced by other towns that are on the railway line. At the 2011 census, Hartley had a population of 299 people. History Hartley was formerly a judicial and administrative centre that had a busy courthouse. The courthouse was built in 1837 and was designed by prominent New South Wales Colonial Architect Mortimer Lewis. Larry Cummins (bushranger)
Lawrence Cummins (1843 – 1909), known informally as Larry Cummins, was a bushranger who operated primarily in the districts surrounding the Abercrombie River (in the Central West (New South Wales), central west of New South Wales between Bathurst, New South Wales, Bathurst and Goulburn, New South Wales, Goulburn). In July 1863 he participated in the Mudgee mail robbery led by Fred Lowry and John Foley (bushranger), John Foley. Soon afterwards Cummins and his younger brother John carried out several robberies. They were identified and John Cummins was apprehended; he was accidentally shot and killed while being escorted by police constables (probably by Larry Cummins in an abortive attempt to free his brother).
