John Finch (b. about 1548; executed 20 April 1584) was an English Roman Catholic farmer. He is a Catholic martyr, beatified in 1929. Life John Finch was born about 1548. He was a yeoman of Eccleston, Lancashire, Eccleston, Lancashire, from a Catholic family, but brought up an Anglican. When he was twenty years old he went to London where he spent nearly a year with some cousins at Inner Temple. John Finch (MP For Winchelsea)
John Finch (died 1642) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1624 and 1642. Finch was probably the son of Thomas Finch, 2nd Earl of Winchilsea and his wife Cecile Wentworth. In 1624, Finch was elected Member of Parliament for Winchelsea. Some sources attribute the 1624 Winchelsea seat to John Finch recorder of Canterbury and later Speaker Sir Alexander Temple tried to take the seat from the control of the Finch family and succeeded in having Finch's return invalidated. However Temple was defeated in the subsequent by-election. In April 1640, Finch was elected MP for Winchelsea for the Short Parliament. John Finch, 1st Baron Finch (17 September 1584 – 27 November 1660) was an English judge, and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1621 and 1629. He was Speaker of the House of Commons. Early life Finch was the son of Sir Henry Finch of Eastwell, Kent. He was a son of Heneage Finch, 3rd Earl of Winchilsea and his fourth wife Elizabeth Ayres (who died 10 April 1745). The Honourable John Finch (c. 1689 – 1 January 1740), of Wornedale in Borden, Kent, was an English lawyer and Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1722 to 1740. Finch was the second son of Heneage Finch, 1st Earl of Aylesford, and his wife Elizabeth Banks, daughter of Sir John Banks, 1st Baronet. He was probably educated at Westminster School and matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford on 1 April 1709, aged 19. He was admitted at Inner Temple in 1710 and was called to the bar in 1719. On the death of his father, his brother Heneage Finch, 2nd Earl of Aylesford alienated the manor of Wornedale to him in 1721, after an act was passed that year for the purpose. Finch married Elizabeth Savile, daughter and heiress of John Savile, of Methley-hall, Yorkshire on 30 April 1726. John Finch (c. 1692–12 February 1763) of Bushey, Hertfordshire, was a British lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons for 23 years from 1724 to 1747. Early life Finch was the third son of Daniel Finch, 2nd Earl of Nottingham and 7th Earl of Winchilsea and his second wife Anne Hatton, daughter of Christopher Hatton, 1st Viscount Hatton. He was educated at Eton College from 1706 to 1707 and matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford on 26 January 1708, aged 15. In 1711, he was admitted at Inner Temple, and was called to the bar in 1719. He became known as ‘him who was stabbed by Sally Salisbury’ after an incident on the night of 18 December 1722, when a prostitute, Sally Pridden (known as Salisbury), stabbed him at the Three Tuns tavern in Chandos Street, apparently in a fit of passion during an argument over theatre tickets.
