John Ewbank (composer)
John Ewbank (born 6 December 1968) is a British-born Dutch composer, lyricist and record producer. He was born in Eastleigh, Hampshire; he and his family moved with the latter to the Netherlands when he was one year old. He wrote/produced a record number of twenty #1 Dutch Top 40 hit singles, of which fourteen were for Marco Borsato, for whom he has been producing and writing since 1994. They sold over four million albums together in the Benelux. Other artists Ewbank worked with include Ferry Corsten, Trijntje Oosterhuis, VanVelzen, Esmée Denters, Gordon, Paul de Leeuw, Rob de Nijs, Nikki Kerkhof, Hero, Maud Mulder, and Tim Immers. The first #1 in 1991 with Gordon, "Kon ik maar even bij je zijn" ("If only I could be with you for a short while"), a song which reached the #1 position for the second time in October 2009, when covered by Thomas Berge. John Ewbank (climber)
John Ewbank (1948 - 2 Dec 2013) was an English-born Australian rockclimbing, rockclimber. He was born in Yorkshire, England in 1948, but emigrated to Australia at the age of 15. He is best known for his development of the Climbing grades#Ewbank, Ewbank System, used in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa for Grade (climbing), grading climbs. Climbing Having learned to climb in his native country, he quickly became involved in the fledgling Australian rockclimbing scene and went on to pioneer hundreds of new routes on crags around the country, particularly in the Blue Mountains National Park, Blue Mountains in his home state of New South Wales. Many of Ewbank's first ascents are still regarded as classics of Australian climbing such as the Totem Pole (Tasmania), Totem Pole in Tasmania and Janicepts (21) at Mount Piddington, which stood as the hardest climb in Australia for many years. John Wilson Ewbank
John W. Ewbank (4 May 1799 – 28 November 1847), was an English-born landscape and marine painter largely operational from Scotland. Life Ewbank was born at Darlington on 4 May 1799, the son of Michael Ewbank, an innkeeper. He was adopted as a child by a wealthy uncle who lived at Wycliffe, on the banks of the River Tees, in the North Riding of Yorkshire. Intended for the Roman Catholic priesthood, he was sent to Ushaw College, from which he absconded. In 1813 Ewbank was apprenticed to Thomas Coulson, an ornamental painter in Newcastle. In around 1816 he moved with Coulson to Edinburgh, where he had some lessons with Alexander Nasmyth. He found work both as a painter and a teacher. He was nominated in 1830 one of the foundation members of the Royal Scottish Academy. Having become a success with history painting, he took to drink, and fell into poverty. John Eubank
John Franklin Eubank (September 9, 1872 – November 3, 1958), nicknamed "Honest John," was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball who played for the Detroit Tigers from 1905 to 1907. Early years Eubank was born in Servia, Indiana, in 1872. Baseball player Detroit Tigers Eubank was purchased by the Detroit Tigers from Fort Dodge Gypsum Eaters of the Iowa State League in early August 1905. Eubank made his major league debut with the Tigers as a 33-year-old rookie on September 19, 1905. On September 22, 1905, he allowed only one hit and no runs in six innings as a relief pitcher against Washington. Eubank compiled a record of 1–0 with a 2.08 ERA in 1905. He pitched in a career-high 24 games and 135 innings in 1906, compiling a 4–10 record with a 3.53 ERA. At the end of September, he pitched a complete game shutout against New York.
