John Evans (Gaelic Footballer, Born 1955)
John Evans (born 1955) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-back for the Cork senior team. Evans joined the team during the 1980 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1987 championship. During that time he won one Munster medal, one National League medal and one All-Star award. Evans was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasions. At club level Evans is a one-time All-Ireland medalist with O'Donovan Rossa. O'Donovan Rossa GAA (Cork)
O'Donovan Rossa or Skibbereen is a Gaelic football and hurling club based in Skibbereen, County Cork, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It participates in Cork GAA competitions. Traditionally, the club has been much more successful in Gaelic football. It won its only Cork Senior Football Championship in 1992 and subsequently won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship after beating Éire Óg of Carlow GAA, Carlow in the final. The National Football League (NFL; ga, Sraith Náisiúnta Peile) is an annual Gaelic football competition between the senior county teams of Ireland plus London. Sponsored by Allianz, it is officially known as the Allianz National Football League. The Gaelic Athletic Association organises the league. The winning team receives the New Ireland Cup, presented by the New Ireland Assurance Company. The National Football League is the second most prestigious inter-county Gaelic Football competition after the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. The Munster Senior Club Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the AIB Munster GAA Football Senior Club Championship) is an annual Gaelic football competition for the champion clubs of each county. It has been organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1964. The All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament which began in season 1970–71. It is the top-tier competition for the senior football clubs of Ireland and London. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. The 1987 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 101st staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 17 May 1987 and ended on 20 September 1987. Kerry entered the championship as the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Cork in a Munster final replay. On 20 September 1987, Meath won the championship following a 1–14 to 0–11 defeat of Cork in the All-Ireland final. This was their 4th All-Ireland title, their first since 1967.
