John Emery (May 20, 1905 – November 16, 1964) was an American actor. Early years Born in New York City, Emery was the son of stage actors Edward Emery (c. 1861 – 1938) and Isabel Waldron (1871–1950). He was educated at Long Island's La Salle Military Academy. Film Through the late 1930s to the early 1960s Emery appeared in supporting roles in many Hollywood films, beginning with James Whale's ''The Road Back'' (1937) and ranging from Alfred Hitchcock's '' Spellbound'' to ''Rocketship X-M''. John Emery (bobsleigh)
John Emery (4 January 1932 – 21 February 2022) was a Canadian bobsledder who competed in the 1960s. He won a gold medal in the four-man event at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck. Early life John Emery was born on 4 January 1932 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and had a brother, Victor. Emery's father was a general in the Royal Canadian Navy, which caused his family to move frequently around locations in Canada, though they would spend time each summer in Thunder Bay, Ontario. After his death, his wife recalled that Emery developed a profound love for nature during these "'' On Golden Pond'' type" summers, which led to his love for the mountains. Bobsleigh Victor Emery watched a bobsleigh race at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy, and became passionate about the sport, which John soon came to love, too. John Emery (1777–1822), was an English actor. Emery was born at Sunderland, 22 September 1777, and obtained a rudimentary education at Ecclesfield in the West Riding of Yorkshire. His father, Mackle Emery (died 18 May 1825), was a country actor, and his mother, as Mrs. Emery, sen., appeared 6 July 1802 at the Haymarket Theatre as Dame Ashfield in Morton's ''Speed the Plough'', and subsequently played at Covent Garden Theatre. From musician to actor Emery was brought up for a musician, and when twelve years of age was in the orchestra at the Brighton Theatre. At this house he made his first appearance as Old Crazy in the farce of ''Peeping Tom'' by O'Keeffe.’ John Bernard says that in the summer of 1792 Mr. and Mrs. Emery and their son John, a lad of about seventeen, who played a fiddle in the orchestra and occasionally went on in small parts, were with him at Teignmouth, again at Dover, where young Emery played country boys, and again in 1793 at Plymouth. John Emery (paediatrician)
John Lewis Emery (3 October 1915 – 1 May 2000) was a British-born paediatric pathologist and emeritus professor at the University of Sheffield. Emery was most notable for being one of the founding fathers of paediatric pathology in the country, and for conducting research into haematology, developmental anatomy, congenital deformities, particularly hydrocephalus, and was probably Britain's leading scientist in the subject of unexplained infant deaths, or cot death. Life Emery's early life was spent at Aylburton, close to the Forest of Dean, where his father was headmaster at the village school. When Emery was 8 years old, the family moved to a new house, where in later life Emery spent most of his time. Emery's early school was difficult, as he was probably dyslexic but still managed to gain access to place at Lydney Grammar School for his early schooling. John Emory
John Emory (April 11, 1789 – 1835) was an American bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, elected in 1832. He is the namesake for Emory University and Emory & Henry College, both Methodist-affiliated American universities. Early life and family John was born at Spaniard's Neck, Queen Anne's County, Maryland. His parents were Methodists, his father a jurist who designed him for the law. His mother, however, who had been converted under Garrettson, devoted John at birth to the ministry. His eldest son Robert, born in 1814, became a professor of Latin and Greek at Dickinson College in 1836 and later its president. In 1841 he published a biography of his father, ''Life of the Rev. John Emory''. He was educated by tutors at Easton and Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and in Washington College, Chestertown, Maryland. He experienced "saving grace" at a Quarterly Meeting in 1806.
