John Edgar Byrne
John Edgar Byrne (1843–1906), also known as Bobby Byrne, was a Queensland bushman and Gulf country pioneer turned journalist and newspaper proprietor. He was founder and owner-editor of the '' Queensland Figaro'', later known as the '' Queensland Figaro and Punch''. 'Bobby' Byrne was born in Pennyfields, Poplar, East London, in April 1843, and was of Scottish descent. He had two brothers, Julius Byrne, a stockbroker of Gracechurch Street, London, and Dr Theodore E. D. Byrne, better known as the "Jumping Doctor of Gympie". The latter was originally a surgeon apprenticed to a parish doctor at Islington, but he later signed up as a surgeon superintendent in charge of the immigrant ship 'The Light Brigade', subsequently visiting Brisbane in 1863 and settling in Queensland in 1866. Carl Feilberg
Carl Adolph Feilberg (21 August 1844 – 25 October 1887) was a Danish-born Australian journalist, newspaper editor, and general political commentator, who is today best known as an Australian indigenous human-rights activist. Biography Life Carl Feilberg was born on 21 August 1844 in a small apartment at 1 Bredgade in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the first born and only son of Danish Royal Navy lieutenant, Christen Schifter Feilberg and Louise Adelaide Feilberg. Louise Feilberg was the daughter of a planter on the island of St. Croix in the then Danish West Indies. Feilberg's second name was spelled Adolph in his birth record and on most contemporary publications for public use, but he frequently used Adolf with 'f' as his personal signature. Charles Hardie Buzacott (1 August 1835 – 19 July 1918) was an Australian journalist, publisher and politician. Early life Buzacott was born in Torrington, Devonshire, England, son of James Buzacott and his wife Ann, ''née'' Hitchcock. He migrated with his elder brother William to Sydney in 1852. Journalism In Sydney, Charles joined the ''Empire'' newspaper and learnt to be a compositor. In 1860 he went to Maryborough, Queensland, and established the ''Maryborough Chronicle'', selling it four years later. Buzacott then went to the Clermont goldfield, and started the ''Peak Downs Telegram'', which he edited. In 1869 Buzacott sold his interest in the ''Telegram'' and moved to Gladstone where he took over the ''Observer''. ''The Queenslander'' was the weekly summary and literary edition of the '' Brisbane Courier'', the leading journal in the colony—and later, federal state—of Queensland since the 1850s. ''The Queenslander'' was launched by the Brisbane Newspaper Company in 1866, and discontinued in 1939.
