John Earls
John Earls is an English music journalist, broadcaster, and columnist, best known for his work as chief writer and editor of Planet Sound on ITV's and Channel 4's Teletext on analogue television and online. He has contributed widely in UK media by writing for the ''News of the World'', ''When Saturday Comes'', and the ''Sunday People'' amongst other publications. Early career Born on 25 August 1972, Earls grew up in Milton Keynes. He wrote reader reviews for Blue Suede Views on ORACLE and for ''Doctor Who Magazine'' in 1987 at the age of 14. He started writing professionally as a freelance in 1990 for football magazines ''90 Minutes'' and, after completing a month's work experience there, ''When Saturday Comes''. After completing a year's journalism course at Harlow College in 1992, Earls became a showbiz interviewer for ''The Sunday People'', a post he left in 1999. Planet Sound
Planet Sound was a Teletext music page on ITV and Channel 4 in the UK, active from 1997 until 2009. It was broadcast on analogue Teletext from page 340, and on digital Teletext from page 820. From 24 May 2007, Planet Sound was also available to read online via the Teletext website. The pages were all simultaneously updated daily at 10pm. History Teletext's predecessor ORACLE ran a similar music section in the 1980s. The Teardrop Explodes
The Teardrop Explodes were an English post-punk/neo-psychedelic band formed in Liverpool in 1978. Best known for their Top Ten UK single "Reward", the group originated as a key band in the emerging Liverpool post-punk scene of the late 1970s. The group also launched the career of group frontman Julian Cope as well as that of keyboard player and co-manager David Balfe (later a record producer, A&R man and founder of Food Records). Other members included early Smiths producer Troy Tate. The Great Eastern (album)
''The Great Eastern'' is the third studio album by Scottish indie rock band The Delgados. It was released on 17 April 2000 in the United Kingdom on their own Chemikal Underground record label, and later on 9 May 2000 in the United States. ''The Great Eastern'' was their first album not to be named after a cycling theme – the title refers to a textile mill in Glasgow, latterly a hostel for the homeless. Reception At the end of 2000, ''The Great Eastern'' was included in several publications' lists of the year's best albums, including being named fifth best by ''Mojo'' and 28th best by ''NME''. The Delgados
The Delgados are a Scottish indie rock band formed in Glasgow in 1994. The band is composed of Alun Woodward (vocals, guitar), Emma Pollock (vocals, guitar), Stewart Henderson (bass guitar), and Paul Savage (drums). Biography The band was formed after friends Woodward, Henderson and Savage were ejected from the band Bubblegum. Joined by Savage's then-girlfriend (and later wife) Pollock, the band named themselves after Pedro Delgado, a Spanish former professional road bicycle racer who won the 1988 Tour de France. Their first commercial release came with the inclusion of their track "Liquidation Girl" on the compilation album ''Skookum Chief Powered Teenage Zit Rock Angst'' by Nardwuar. My Life Story are an English pop group formed in London, England, in 1993. The group's success peaked in the mid to late 1990s as part of the Britpop era. Fronted by singer/songwriter Jake Shillingford, the group inherited their name from an earlier group in which Shillingford had appeared. Paul Foot (born 24 December 1973) is an English comedian. Foot is known for his musings, rants, "disturbances" and apparent aversion to pop culture.
