John Drew (American Politician)
John Drew (August 10, 1940 – February 24, 1997) was an American politician. Drew lived in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He went to Saint Paul Central High School, Central High School in Saint Paul and to the University of Minnesota. He served in the United States Army and was involved in the insurance business. Drew served on the Ramsey County, Minnesota, Ramsey County Commission and was a Republican Party (United States), Republican. He also served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1979 to 1982. Drew then served on the Saint Paul City Council from 1984 to 1988. In 1988, Drew and his wife moved to Mille Lacs Lake near Garrison, Minnesota, in Crow Wing County, Minnesota where they had owned the Rainbow Inn resort. John Drew (Australian Politician)
John Michael Drew (17 October 1865 – 17 July 1947) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council for 41 years in two separate terms between 1900 and his death in 1947. Born at Wanerenooka, Northampton, Western Australia, Drew established and edited several newspapers circulating in the Geraldton region before entering politics. A strong opponent of federation, he was elected to the Legislative Council in 1900. Nominally independent, Drew aligned himself with the Labor Party, and served in several Labor ministries during the early 1900s, in positions such as Minister for Agriculture, Minister for Lands, and Colonial Secretary. He officially joined the party in 1911, having been admitted to caucus sittings the previous year. During World War I, Drew supported conscription, but this issue, coupled with the ineffectual Scaddan Ministry, led to him losing his seat at the 1918 election. John Edward Drew (September 30, 1954 – April 10, 2022) was an American professional basketball player. A small forward from Gardner–Webb University, he played eleven seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Drew was a two-time NBA All-Star, and was the first player banned under the substance abuse policy instituted by league commissioner David Stern. Early life Drew was born in Vredenburgh, Alabama, on September 30, 1954. He attended J.F. Shields High School in Beatrice, Alabama. He led the school to a state championship in 1972. He set the Alabama High School Athletic Association career scoring average record with 41.0 points per game. College career After graduating from high school, Drew played basketball at Gardner–Webb University. John Drew (1734–1808) was an English banker and landowner, who served as High Sheriff of Sussex. Life Baptised on 12 August 1734 in Chichester, he was the eldest son of John Drew and his first wife Margaret Haskell. He became a partner in what was known as the Chichester Old Bank, the partners being Griffiths, Chaldecott, Drew & Trew in 1783, Griffiths, Chaldecott & Drew by 1790, Griffiths, Drew & Co by 1796, Griffiths, Drew and Ridge in 1805 and after his death Ridge & Murray. The business has since become part of the Royal Bank of Scotland. An alderman of the city, he served as mayor in 1785 and again in 1798. On 4 February 1791 he was appointed High Sheriff of Sussex. As well as his business in Chichester, he invested in lands outside the city. John Drew Jr. (November 13, 1853 – July 9, 1927), commonly known as John Drew during his life, was an American stage actor noted for his roles in Shakespearean comedy, society drama, and light comedies. He was the eldest son of John Drew Sr., who had given up a blossoming career in whaling for acting, and Louisa Lane Drew, and the brother of Louisa Drew, Georgiana Drew, and Sidney Drew. As such, he was also the uncle of John, Ethel, and Lionel Barrymore, and also great-great-uncle to Drew Barrymore. John Alexander Drew was a prominent American trader in the Mackinac area in the early 19th century; it is now considered within the boundaries of Michigan. John Drew (1809 – 17 December 1857) was a self-educated English astronomer. Early life and education Drew was born at Bower Chalke, Wiltshire, in 1809. His father died when Drew was only a year old. Drew was self-educated, and was so successful at this that by the age of fifteen he was prepared to teach professionally. He spent two years as an assistant in a school at Melksham, after which he moved to Southampton, where he taught for another sixteen years. He was a corresponding member of the Philosophical Institute of Basel, and had taken a degree of doctor in philosophy at the university of the same place. Career Drew's first celestial observations were made with a three and a half foot refractor. In 1847, he installed a five-foot achromatic telescope by Dollond, mounted equatorially, in a small observatory he built for the purpose in his garden.
