John Downey (Iowa Politician)
John Downey (1834–1906) was an Irish-born American politician. A native of Belfast born in 1834, Downey sailed to New York City at the age of twenty. He traveled to Ohio two years later, and in 1857, settled in Lee County, Iowa. Air Vice-Marshal John Chegwyn Thomas Downey, (26 November 1920 – 14 February 2010) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/obituaries/article7084829.ece/ Times Obituary was a senior commander in the Royal Air Force. Downey qualified as a pilot just before his 19th birthday and started the Second World War by flying North Sea patrols with 608 squadron. He then spent some time flying Spitfires with a Photo-Reconnaissance unit based in St Eval, Cornwall. In September 1941 he transferred to Gibraltar to fly Catalinas and Swordfish with 202 Squadron. In 1942 he became a navigation instructor. In 1944, he joined 224 Squadron flying (Lend-Lease) Liberators on anti-U-boat operations, again out of St Eval. In September 1944 he moved to Milltown in Scotland. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his 224 Squadron service. After the war he attended the Empire Central Flying School at Hullavington, and then joined the staff of the Empire Air Navigation School at Manb ...

Hyde Park And Regent's Park Bombings
The Hyde Park and Regent's Park bombings were carried out on 20 July 1982 in London, England. Members of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) detonated two improvised explosive devices during British military ceremonies in Hyde Park and Regent's Park, both in central London. The explosions killed eleven military personnel: four soldiers of the Blues and Royals at Hyde Park, and seven bandsmen of the Royal Green Jackets at Regent's Park. Seven of the Blues and Royals' horses were also killed in the attack. One seriously injured horse, Sefton, survived and was subsequently featured on television programmes and was awarded " Horse of the Year". In 1987, Gilbert "Danny" McNamee was convicted of making the Hyde Park bomb and jailed for 25 years. He served 12 years before being released under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement; his conviction was later quashed. John Downie
John Dennis Downie (19 July 1925 – 19 February 2013) was a Scottish association football, footballer. He was born in Lanark,1925 Births in the District of Lanark in the County of Lanark page 35 no 104 and played as an inside forward. Downie played football as a member of the List of Air Training Corps squadrons, Lanark Air Training Corps, but joined Bradford (Park Avenue) A.F.C., Bradford Park Avenue as an amateur in August 1942.
