John Dickie (evangelist)
John Dickie (January 1823, at Irvine, Ayrshire – 18 January 1891, also at Irvine) was a Scottish evangelist and writer. Life His father (a grocer) died when John was 15; his mother had died 4 years before. He and one sister were left orphans. In 1841 he entered the University of Glasgow, and between 19 and 20 years of age “he was led to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as his all-sufficient Saviour”.The information contained in the biographical part of this Wikipedia article as originally written in July 2005 is entirely selected from the preface to Dickie’s book ''Words of Faith, Hope and Love, from the Chamber of a Dying Saint'' (London, 1891). After finishing his university career he entered the Divinity Hall, but became ill with pulmonary consumption and went back to Irvine to carry on the grocery business with his sister. John Dickie (historian)
Professor John Dickie (born 1963) is a British author, historian and academic who specialises in Italy. Education Born in Dundee, he was brought up in Leicestershire and went to Loughborough Grammar School. He studied Modern Languages at Pembroke College, Oxford, obtaining a Bachelor's degree with first class honours. He continued his studies at the University of Sussex, completing a Master's degree and becoming a Doctor of Philosophy. Career He is Professor of Italian Studies at University College London, where he has taught since 1993. John Dickie (20 May 1875 – 24 June 1942) was a Scottish-New Zealand presbyterian theologian and professor. Life He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 20 May 1875. After growing up in the Buchan District of North East Scotland, Dickie attended University in Aberdeen in 1891, graduating with an MA (honours) in classics. John Purcell Dickie
John Purcell Dickie (born 14 July 1874 – 1963) was a Liberal Party (later National Liberal) politician in the United Kingdom. At the 1922 general election, he contested the Gateshead constituency, coming third. However, in 1923 he won the seat, but was Member of Parliament (MP) for Gateshead for less than a year, losing the seat at the general election in October 1924. He did not contest Gateshead again, but stood unsuccessfully in the Darlington by-election in 1926 and at Consett in 1929. John Barnhill Dickie
John Barnhill Dickie (March 30, 1829 – June 5, 1886) was a farmer, teacher and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Colchester County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1874 to 1878 as an independent member. He was born in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, the son of Isaac Patton Dickie and Rebecca Barnhill. Dickie was educated at the Mount Allison Academy and the Halifax Free Church College. He married Ellen Putnam in 1850. Dickie was named coroner for Colchester County in 1854. By 1856, he had settled in Onslow where he owned a farm and operated a store. In 1858, he married Harriet Dickson. Dickie was treasurer for the poor, a justice of the peace and also, for a time, a major in the militia. He helped found the Onslow Agricultural Society, serving as its first president.
