John Denis Fryer
John Denis (Jack) Fryer (1895–1923) was a soldier and a student of the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. His untimely death resulted in the establishment of the Fryer Library at the University. Early life John Denis Fryer was born on 11 September 1895 in Springsure, Central Queensland, the son of Charles George Fryer and his wife Rosina (née Richards). Jack Fryer attended Rockhampton Grammar School and went on to win a scholarship to The University of Queensland (UQ) in 1915, aged 19. University and Military life Soon after starting his first term at the University of Queensland, Fryer volunteered for military service in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in World War I. He was commissioned in 1916 and served in France and Belgium in 1917. In August 1918 he was badly wounded in a German attack. Springsure Hospital Museum
Springsure Hospital Museum is a heritage-listed former public hospital and now a museum at 13 Woodbine Street, Springsure, Central Highlands Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1868 to 1879. It is also known as Springsure Hospital. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History The Springsure Hospital was constructed in , as a response to the needs of the local community. In 1844 Ludwig Leichhardt traversed an area to the east of what is now Springsure, naming the Expedition Range, Albinia Downs and Comet Creek as he went. Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease usually caused by '' Mycobacterium tuberculosis'' (MTB) bacteria. Tuberculosis generally affects the lungs, but it can also affect other parts of the body. Most infections show no symptoms, in which case it is known as latent tuberculosis. Around 10% of latent infections progress to active disease which, if left untreated, kill about half of those affected. Typical symptoms of active TB are chronic cough with blood-containing mucus, fever, night sweats, and weight loss.
