John De Laittre
John De Laittre (March 5, 1832 – September 19, 1912) was a businessman and the 10th List of mayors of Minneapolis, mayor of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Early life De Laittre was born in 1832 to Charles De Laittre and Rosalie Levalle Desisles. As a child he helped with work on the family farm and attended local schools. After turning 18, he worked for several years on fishing boats operating in the Bay of Fundy and Straits of Belle Isle. In 1852, he decided to move to California, arriving in San Francisco, California later that year and making his way to Murphys, California to prospect for gold with an old friend. While the two were unsuccessful in mining for gold, De Laittre became involved in a profitable mill which supplied lumber to the area's miners and also invested in other local businesses. Henry Bryan Hall
Henry Bryan Hall (11 May 1808 London – 25 April 1884 Morrisania, New York), was an English stipple engraver and portrait painter. He was apprenticed to the engravers Benjamin Smith and Henry Meyer. Later he worked for Henry Thomas Ryall who was designated 'Portrait and Historical Engraver to Her Majesty, Queen Victoria'. Hall produced plates for Ryall's ''Eminent Conservative Statesmen'' (1837–38) and assisted in the engraving of seventy portraits for Ryall's plate of ''The Coronation of Queen Victoria'' after George Hayter (1838–42). Hall also engraved portraits of English Protestant martyrs for C. Birch (1839) and provided plates for John Wilson and Robert Chambers's ''The Land of Burns'' (1840), Finden's ''Gallery of Beauty'' (1841), John William Carleton's ''Sporting Sketch-Book'' (1842), and John Kitto's ''Gallery of Scripture Engravings'' (1846–49). Minneapolis City Hall and Hennepin County Courthouse (also known as the Municipal Building), designed by Long and Kees in 1888, is the main building used by the city government of Minneapolis, as well as by Hennepin County, in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The structure has served as mainly local government offices since it was built, and today the building is 60 percent occupied by the city and 40 percent occupied by the County. The building is jointly owned by the city and county and managed by the Municipal Building Commission. Lakewood Cemetery
Lakewood Cemetery is a large private, non-sectarian cemetery located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. It is located at 3600 Hennepin Avenue at the southern end of the Uptown area. It is noted for its chapel which is on the National Register of Historic Places and was modeled after the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey. History About 250 acres in size, Lakewood memorializes the dead with more than 200,000 monuments, markers and memorializations.
