John Kynaston Cross
John Kynaston Cross (13 October 1832 – 20 March 1887), was a British cotton spinner and Liberal Party politician. He served as Under-Secretary of State for India under William Gladstone from 1883 to 1885. Background Cross was the second of the thirteen children of John Cross and his wife Hannah, daughter of Richard Kynaston. He inherited the cotton-spinning firm of Cross and Winkworth, which was at the time one of the largest such firms in Lancashire. Political career Cross entered Parliament for Bolton in 1874, a seat he held until 1885, when he was defeated. In 1883 he was appointed Under-Secretary of State for India in the second Liberal administration of William Ewart Gladstone, a post he retained until the government fell two years later. Family Cross married Emily (née Carlton). They had five sons and three daughters. Cross suffered from diabetes which caused severe depression. He committed suicide by hanging in March 1887, aged 54. John Michael Cross
John Michael Cross (1 February 1859 – 12 April 1934) was a journalist and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Cross was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England to parents Thomas Cross and his wife Elizabeth (née Burnett) and was educated in England. After his arrival in Australia he took up journalism and worked at several newspapers including the Brisbane Telegraph, the Northern Argus in Rockhampton, the Toowoomba Chronicle, the Maryborough Chronicle, and the Gympie Miner. He was also the editor of the Peoples' Newspaper in Rockhampton. After his time in parliament he continued as a journalist and Hansard reporter in Brisbane. He was a councillor of the Royal Society of St George and a member of the Esoteric Lodge of Masonry. On the 23 Aug 1884 he married Margaret Bell (died 1905)

John Cross (29 May 1819 – 26 February 1861) was an English painter. Life Cross was born on 29 May 1819 to John and Elizabeth Cross, in Tiverton, Devon, where his father was the superintendent of a lace factory. Soon afterwards the family moved to Saint-Quentin, in northern France, when his father took up an appointment as superintendent of an English factory. There the young Cross was admitted into the School of Design, where he showed so much ability that he was sent to Paris, where he entered the atelier of Picot, a painter of some celebrity in the old classic school. In 1843 Cross submitted a cartoon of ''The Assassination of Thomas à Becket'' to the competition for the decoration of the Houses of Parliament, held in Westminster Hall, but was unsuccessful as it did not fully comply with the terms of the competition. John H. Cross Jr. (January 27, 1925 – November 15, 2007) was an American pastor and Civil Rights activist. He was best known as the pastor of the 16th Street Baptist Church, an African American Baptist congregation in Birmingham, Alabama, at the time of church's racially motivated bombing in 1963. The bombing, which ripped through the church and killed four young girls, became a rallying cry for the Civil Rights Movement and propelled the problems of racial segregation in The South into the national spotlight.
