John Cronin (Gaelic Footballer)
John Cronin (1923 – 30 July 1992) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for club sides Collins and Milltown/Castlemaine and at inter-county level with the Cork and Kerry senior football teams. Career Cronin first came to Gaelic football prominence in a number of army tournaments. His performances saw him join his brother Jimmy on the Cork senior team. Cronin won a Munster Championship in his first full season on the team in 1949, before being named captain of the team the following year. He claimed a second Munster Championship title as well as a National League title in his last year with the team in 1952. Cronin joined the Kerry senior team in 1953 and won an All-Ireland title in his debut season. During his four-year tenure with the team, he won three consecutive provincial titles before winning a second All-Ireland title in 1955. Cork Senior Football Championship
The Cork Premier Senior Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bon Secours Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PSFC) is an annual club Gaelic football competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking senior clubs and amalgamated teams in the county of Cork in Ireland, deciding the competition winners through a group and knockout format. It is the most prestigious competition in Cork Gaelic football. Introduced in 1887 as the Cork Senior Football Championship, it was initially a straight knockout tournament open only to senior-ranking club teams, with its winner reckoned as the Cork county champion. 1955 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The 1955 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 69th staging of Ireland's premier Gaelic football knock-out competition. Meath were the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Dublin in the Leinster final. Kerry were the winners. Note Quarter Finals were back in the Munster championship but Clare only skipped 1 year. Limerick, not part of the championship between 1953 and 1964, were approved to host Waterford in the Quarter Final but did not play them. The 1953 Cork Senior Football Championship was the 65th staging of the Cork Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. Clonakilty entered the championship as the defending champions.
