John Covert Boyd
John Covert Boyd (December 24, 1850 – July 7, 1927) was a surgeon and medical director in the Medical Corps (United States Navy), United States Navy Medical Corps. He is one of the incorporators of the American Red Cross and one of the founders of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Biography John Covert Boyd was born on 24 December 1850 near Bradford Springs, South Carolina and spent his youth at the private schools of Charleston, South Carolina, Charleston. From 1869 to 1871, he attended the University of Virginia. While there, he founded the Kappa Sigma fraternity with four other friends on December 10, 1869: William Grigsby McCormick, Edmund Law Rogers Jr., Frank Courtney Nicodemus, and George Miles Arnold. After Boyd's second year, in which he entered the medical program, he transferred to the University of the City of New York. Bradford Springs, South Carolina
Bradford is a city status in the United Kingdom, city and the administrative centre of the City of Bradford district in West Yorkshire, England. The city is in the Pennines' eastern foothills on the banks of the Bradford Beck. Bradford had a population of 349,561 at the 2011 Census for England and Wales, 2011 census; the second-largest population centre in the county after Leeds, which is to the east of the city.
