John Corcoran ( ; born in 1939) is an American author and the founder of the John Corcoran foundation. He is severely dyslexic and read at a second-grade level until the age of 48. Despite this, he graduated from high school and college, and worked as a high school teacher and real estate developer without being discovered. Early life Corcoran was raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico where his literacy stalled after second grade. He was one of six siblings, and his parents were too overwhelmed to notice the deficit. His teachers at school assigned him to the "dumb row" but were distracted by his disciplinary problems and soon forgot about his reading difficulties. After graduating high school by cheating, he attended two junior colleges and then University of Texas at El Paso (then called Texas Western). John Corcoran ( ; 20 March 1937 - 8 January 2021) was an American logician, philosopher, mathematician, and historian of logic. He is best known for his philosophical work on concepts such as the nature of inference, relations between conditions, argument-deduction-proof distinctions, the relationship between logic and epistemology, and the place of proof theory and model theory in logic. Nine of Corcoran's papers have been translated into Spanish, Portuguese, Persian, and Arabic; his 1989 "signature" essay was translated into three languages. Fourteen of his papers have been reprinted; one was reprinted twice. John Corcoran (16 October 1959 – 19 January 2016) was an Irish Gaelic games administrator. His career included almost every role in Gaelic football, including player, coach, manager, selector, chairman, county board delegate and referee. Having played for St Mary's and later become a referee, Corcoran became a member of the St Mary's committee at a young age and was treasurer and secretary of the club in the early 1980s before becoming chairman in 1992. This was also the role he held at the time of his death, having also held the position of Carbery chairman. Prior to assuming the chair of the divisional committee, he had been PRO and vice-chair and also chaired the Munster third-level GAA body, sitting on the Munster Council as a result. John Corcoran (wrongful Conviction)
The murder of Helen Gorrie (1976 or 1977 – 31 July/1 August 1992) was a high-profile child murder which occurred in the grounds of Merchistoun Hall in Horndean, Hampshire in 1992. 15-year-old Gorrie was found half-naked and strangled in the spot popular with courting couples only ten minutes from her home, after going out one night to meet a 21-year-old man named John Corcoran. She had met him the night before as he cruised around the area in his vehicle, and he had asked her to meet up with him that night. The murder of the schoolgirl made headline news at the time and featured on ''Crimewatch''. Cocoran was suspected of strangling Gorrie after she refused his sexual advances, and in 1999 he was convicted of her murder. In 2003 Corcoran was released on appeal after only serving around three years.
