Johnny Cooney
John Walter Cooney (March 18, 1901 – July 8, 1986) was an American professional baseball player. He was a pitcher, outfielder and first baseman, then a longtime coach, in Major League Baseball. Listed at (178 cm) and 165 pounds (75 kg), Cooney batted right-handed but threw left-handed. He was born in Cranston, Rhode Island. Playing career In a 20-season career, Cooney played for the Boston Bees/ Braves (Braves, 1921–30, 1940–42; Bees, 1938–40) and also with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1935–37, 1943–44) and New York Yankees (1944), while hitting a .286 batting average (965-for-3372) with 219 RBI and only two home runs. He made 159 appearances as a pitcher from 1921 through 1930, all with Boston, winning 34 and losing 44 for a .436 winning percentage with 224 strikeouts and a 3.72 ERA in Innings pitched. John Cooney (politician)
John Cooney (June 9, 1836 – January 20, 1894) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. Life Cooney was born on June 9, 1836, in Albany, New York. He was of Irish descent. Cooney attended The Albany Academy. He moved to Brooklyn in 1855 and was admitted to the bar two years later. He studied law under James T. Brady and defended a large number of murder cases. A Democrat, Cooney was elected in 1889 to the New York State Assembly, representing the Kings County 3rd District. He served in the Assembly in 1890, 1891, 1892, and 1893. He was an elected delegate to the 1894 New York Constitutional Convention, but he died before the convention. Cooney died of pneumonia on January 20, 1894, in his home at 189 Dean Street. He was in poor health for at least a year beforehand. John Cooney (rugby Union)
John Cooney (born 1 May 1990) is an Irish rugby union player who plays scrum-half for Irish provincial side Ulster in the United Rugby Championship and the European Rugby Champions Cup, having previously played for Leinster and Connacht, and has eleven caps for Ireland. Since joining Ulster in 2017, he has been nominated for EPCR European Player of the Year once, been named in the Pro14 Dream Team four times, and been Ulster's player of the year twice. He is the first player to play over 20 games for three different Irish provinces. Ulster describe him as a "talismanic player ... known for his sniping runs, kicking success, and ability to dictate games" whose "performances for the province have seen him consistently rank among the top points-scorers in the PRO14, now United Rugby Championship, competition."
