John Connors (VC)
John Connors VC (October 1830 – 29 January 1857) was born in Duagh, Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland and was an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Details Connors was approximately 24 years old, and a private in the 3rd Regiment of Foot (later The East Kent Regiment (The Buffs)), British Army during the Crimean War when the following deed took place for which he was awarded the VC. On 8 September 1855 at Sebastopol in the Crimea, Private Connors showed conspicuous gallantry at the assault on the Redan in personal conflict with the enemy. He rescued an officer of the 30th Regiment who was surrounded by Russians, by shooting one and bayoneting another. Further information He later achieved the rank of Corporal. John Connors (American Politician)
John H. Connors (December 2, 1922 – March 7, 2009) was an American politician in the state of Iowa. Connors was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended high school there, and then the Harvard University Trade Union Program. He served in World War II with the United States Navy Reserve. He was a firefighter in the Des Moines Fire Department. In 1945 he married Marjorie Leonard. He has four children. Connors served in the Iowa House of Representatives The Iowa House of Representatives is the lower house of the Iowa General Assembly, the upper house being the Iowa Senate. John Lorne Connors (born 1944 or 1945) is a Canadian educator and former politician who was leader of the Newfoundland New Democratic Party from 1970 to 1974. Connors was elected party leader in 1970 and was a 26-year-old schoolteacher from Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador when he led the party into the 1971 Newfoundland general election. The party had never won a seat in an election and Connors hoped to win three seats and hold the balance of power in what was expected to be a close election between long-time premier Joey Smallwood's incumbent Liberals and Frank Moores' Progressive Conservatives. Connors was the youngest party leader in Canada at the time and had previously run for the federal New Democrats in St. John's West in the 1968 Canadian federal election.
