Wilton, Wiltshire
Wilton is a town and civil parish in Wiltshire (of which it was once the county town), England, with a rich heritage dating back to the Anglo-Saxons. Carpets have been manufactured at Wilton since the 18th century. Today it is overshadowed by its larger neighbour, Salisbury, but retains a range of shops and attractions including Wilton House and a large Romanesque parish church. The confluence of the rivers Wylye and Nadder is at Wilton. History The history of Wilton dates back to the Anglo-Saxons in the 8th century, and by the late 9th century it was the capital of ''Wiltunscire'', a shire of the Kingdom of Wessex. Wilton was the name of a parliamentary borough in Wiltshire. It was represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of England from 1295 to 1707, then in the Parliament of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800 and finally in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1918.
