John Cole (pirate)
John Cole (died 1718) was a pirate active off the American eastern seaboard. His brief career is associated with Richard Worley and William Moody. He is known more for the unusual cargo of his pirate ship than for his piracy. Biography Governor Robert Johnson of the Province of South Carolina was worried about retaliatory attacks from pirates after the capture of Blackbeard’s associate Stede Bonnet. In October 1718 Johnson heard rumors that pirate William Moody was heading to Charles Town and commissioned four vessels to oppose him, including Stede Bonnet’s former ship ''Revenge''. Scouts reported two ships anchored nearby and Johnson’s fleet sailed to meet them. The smaller sloop was not Moody; it had been the ''New York’s Revenge'' captained by Richard Worley, another pirate well-known in the Carolinas. John Barry Pierpoint Cole (14 July 1923 – 23 February 1995) was an English fashion and advertising photographer. Early life John Cole was born in Edmonton, Middlesex on 14 July 1923, to parents George Robert, an art director with his own design studio G R Cole, and Ethel Grace Pairpoint (known as Susan) Cole, née Silk, housewife (whose family were silversmiths). The family lived at Oak Beams, The Green, Old Southgate, London N14, and Cole attended The Beacon School near Bexhill, a boarding school, and Westminster School. Photography Cole joined the photographic film manufacturer Ilford as an apprentice trainee, though was soon dismissed on the grounds that it did not suit his condition. He was filmed by British Pathe loading the camera while working at Gee and Watson and he then worked with Hugh White Studio. John Cole (born June 16, 1988) is a Zimbabwean choreographer and performing artist. Early youth John Cole was born into a family of six to Phillip Cole and Beverley Johnson in 1988. He grew up in the suburb of Sunningdale, Harare. After his parents died, Cole stayed with his grandmother. John Cole attended Primary School at Ardbennie Primary School and Sunningdale but could not continue with his O Levels at Morgan High School. Early career John attempted a sports career as a cricketer and underwent trials with the Zimbabwe National Cricket team, but could not go on due to an injury. After the injury, Cole focused on dancing starting his dance career in 2004 with Slicker dance crew. John Morrison Cole (23 November 1927 – 7 November 2013) was a Northern Irish journalist and broadcaster, best known for his work with the BBC. Cole served as deputy editor of ''The Guardian'' and ''The Observer'' and, from 1981 to 1992, was the BBC's political editor. Donald Macintyre, in an obituary in ''The Independent'', described him as "the most recognisable and respected broadcast political journalist since World War II." John Thomas Cole (2 November 1854 – 13 May 1927) was an Australian dairy farmer and cattle breeder. He was born at Jamberoo to emancipist farmer William Cole and Annabella Mackenzie. He was involved in stock shows from 1876 in partnership with his brother Jim. On 6 November 1882 he married Margaret Thorburn. He expanded his property holdings and moved away from the partnership to show cattle alone. On 6 March 1889 he married for a second time, to Agnes Dixon Lamond, with whom he had a daughter. From 1882 to 1890 he was an alderman at Kiama, and he was an unsuccessful Free Trade candidate for Kiama at the 1889 and 1895 elections. In 1895 he moved to Nowra, and he later relocated to Sydney, where he promoted the dairy industry, particularly co-operation across the colony. John Jenkins Cole (25 March 1815 – 10 May 1897) was an English architect. Biography Cole was born on 25 March 1815 in Devonport, Plymouth, the son of Robert Cole, a solicitor, and his wife, Mary. He was educated at Merchant Taylors' School. Cole was originally trained as a solicitor, but soon moved into architecture, studying under Alfred Ainger. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (FRIBA) in 1848. In 1855, Cole was elected architect to the London Stock Exchange, a role he retained for 35 years. In this role, he designed the Exchange's dome, new offices in Throgmorton Street and the frontage in Old Broad Street. He retired from the Institute in 1890. Outside of his profession, Cole had a keen interest in astronomy and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1862. John Cole (1792–1848) was an English bookseller, publisher and antiquary, of Northampton, Lincoln and Scarborough, North Yorkshire. He was born on 3 Oct. 1792 at Weston Favell in Northamptonshire. He is remarkable as having compiled over 100 publications but whether as bookseller, lecturer, 'general factor,' or school-master, Cole was invariably unsuccessful. As self-trained and industrious antiquary, he appears to have been utterly unsuited for the cares of a business life and he was constantly on the move and died in poverty. Cole generally printed only few copies of his books which make them rare. As his books contain much out-of-the-way information, they are sought after by collectors. He was in the habit of binding up extra plates and additional manuscript matter in his private copies.
